The ideal candidate is a designer with recent AutoCAD experience in the development of drawings for warship design. Experience with the FREEDOM Variant of the Littoral Combat ship is a plus, as is experience with Ship Constructor 3D Modeling. The In-Service Ship Design (ISSD) Ship Repair Designer will be a subject matter expert (SME) in a major ship building discipline such as piping/mechanical, hull/structure, or electrical and have experience across the disciplines. They will provide drafting support for the marine engineering and design work in support the maintenance and modernization of naval warships. This work will include creating and maintaining AutoCAD drawings to support design specifications and documentation requirements of ship maintenance, modernization, and repair. The Draftsman will be expected to participate in planning projects and translate the engineer’s direction into electronic drawings and coordinate with all stakeholders affected by the design. Travel will be required to a ship’s location for planning and execution support (estimated 15 – 30%). This person shall support the ISSD organization in the following manner:

  1. Create and modify AutoCAD drawings;

  2. Assist in updating and maintaining released documents;

  3. Perform required product updates;

  4. Maintain accurate product documentation and work instructions

  5. Provides technical support;

  6. Manage database information;

  7. Work alternate non-standard/overtime hours and on-call service as required.

  8. Conducts ship-checks of designs and translate into design products.

Standard Job Description: Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as, CAD, CAM or CATIA. Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal. Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications.

Basic Qualifications

  1. Significant drafting experience with AutoCAD 2015 or newer.

  2. Ability to read, draft, modify and redline ship drawings.

  3. Ability to manage multiple tasks and changing priorities.

Desired Skills

  1. NAVSEA drawing familiarity.

  2. Experience in Naval Ship Piping or Electrical Design.

  3. Experience creating and modifying Ship Installation Drawings.

  4. Shipyard experience in multiple trade disciplines.

  5. Navy ship engineering and combat systems familiarity.

  6. Experience creating and modifying 3D Models.

  7. Associates/Bachelor’s degree in Drafting; or equivalent education and experience.8. Good problem solving and decision-making skills.

  8. Good oral and written communication skills.

  9. Knowledge of LCS Program, the ship, its systems, and Post-Delivery programs.

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $69400.00 - $128800.00

  • Annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs may be offered depending on the position. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and can vary from year to year and are tied to a range of performance metrics.

  • For (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
