Duties Description Regional Offices DivisionUtica Regional Office Assistant Attorney General Reference No. UTC_AAG_3910Application Deadline is October 2, 2026Salary Range: $87,356 - $186,493To be considered for this opportunity, submit a complete application online at ag.ny.gov/job-postings/attorneysThe Office of the New York State Attorney General (OAG) is seeking a litigator to serve in the Utica Regional Office (RO) as an Assistant Attorney General (AAG). This position would primarily involve development and litigation of affirmative proceedings in areas such as consumer protection, civil rights, and social justice, as well as state counsel functions. The AAG would be involved in all stages of investigation and litigation, including strategic planning, issuing subpoenas, conducting depositions, drafting commencement documents, negotiating settlements, and conducting trials. Additionally, the RO represents the state, its agencies, and officers in a wide range of civil litigation pending in state courts.

Minimum Qualifications Applicants must be capable of handling all phases of the investigations and litigation from commencement through trial and have strong writing, analytical, organizational, negotiation, and supervisory skills. A minimum of two (2) years of post-graduate civil litigation experience is preferred. Applicants must reside in (or intend to soon become a resident of) New York state and be admitted to practice law in New York state. In addition, the Public Officers Law requires that OAG attorneys be citizens of the United States. A two (2) year commitment upon being hired is a condition of employment.
