Amazon Leo is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Amazon Leo will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity.

Export Control Requirement:

Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

As a Sr. PCB Manufacturing Engineer for one or more Printed Circuit Boards (PCB), you'll be directly responsible for bring engineering designs for complex electronic assemblies to reality. You'll work closely with the Design Engineering and Supplier Manufacturing teams to ensure new designs are optimized for manufacturing while driving improvements in yield, cycle time, and cost for existing hardware. Your expertise will be invaluable in bringing satellite hardware to life.

You must have the ability to dive deep on the details to identify, understand and solve difficult technical problems and also utilize a system level approach to prioritize issues for whole program. You use data to drive manufacturability, reliability, and quality objectives in design and development teams.

*Up to 25% Travel will be required for this role

Key job responsibilities

-Partner with the Design Engineering teams to drive Design for Excellence (DFx) by providing PCB DFM feedback to identify and mitigate manufacturing challenges early in product development.

-Own the PCB Manufacturing technical roadmap ensuring the manufacturing readiness at our contract manufacturers match the design technology and requirements of the PCB designs.

-Investigate and develop new manufacturing technology and methodologies to enhance PCB quality, reliability, throughput, and cost.

-Drive closure of all operational issues during pre-production builds. Work within Operations, Supply Chain, R&D, and Reliability Engineering to implement and optimize manufacturing processes and improve yields for production ramp.

-Investigate failures/defects in manufacturing, test, and integration. Identify and mitigate underlying root causes to prevent reoccurrence as part of continuous improvement efforts.

-Identify opportunities for risk reduction and simplification of PCB manufacturing processes.

-Deliver manufacturing processes capabilities including equipment capability, quality controls, materials characterization, and standardized rework practices.

-Actively monitor the success of products and processes through production ramp. Provide regular status reports of PCBs progress from design to production.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in PCB manufacturing engineering.

  • Experience with driving DFx, DFM, DFA for NPI and mass production

  • Experience in PCB fabrication processes: inner layer imaging, etching, lamination, mechanical and laser drilling, copper plating (electroless and electrolytic), outer layer patterning, solder mask application, surface finish (ENIG, ENEPIG), electrical test, impedance verification, and final routing/profiling.

  • Experience working independently and ensuring timely and accurate communication with contract manufacturers, suppliers, and 3rd party test and failure analysis partners.

  • Ability to lead small teams in root-causing technical product manufacturability and process problems and drive implementation of solutions.

  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, enthusiasm for the team’s spirit of innovation and mission of improving manufacturability, quality, and reliability in cutting-edge technology.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in PCB supply chain, manufacturing or engineering.

  • 5+ years experience with industry standard DFM/DFx analysis tools, Mentor/Valor preferred.

  • Experience with IPC-6012 and IPC-A-600 Class 3 compliance.

  • Experience with HDI PCB technologies (microvias, sequential lamination, blind/buried vias), controlled impedance stackup design, and advanced materials (high Tg, low loss, RF laminates).

  • Experience qualifying and managing PCB fabrication suppliers, including process audits and capability assessments.

  • Experience with PCB qualification and test coupon evaluation (D coupons for microsection/plating, Z coupons for impedance, thermal stress per IPC TM-650).

  • Experience in PCB fabrication processes: inner layer imaging, etching, lamination, drilling, copper plating, outer layer patterning, solder mask application, surface finish, electrical test, and routing/profiling.

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
