What you need to know

  • TTI is a Texas based agency. This position has the flexibility of a hybrid remote option with three days in a TTI Texas based office. This can be discussed further during the interview process.

  • Your primary duty station will be TTI San Antonio - Castle Hills, located at 1100 NW Loop 410, Suite 605, San Antonio, TX 78213. You are required to report to this location for the first 30 days of employment. Following this initial period, a flexible work arrangement may be approved at the agency’s discretion.

  • The salary range for position is commensurate . Final salary will be determined based on the applicant's qualifications and experience.

  • A Presidential proclamation issued on September 19, 2025, imposes a $100,000 fee on new H-1B petitions filed after September 21, 2025. Please be advised that Texas A&M University will NOT pay this fee. Therefore, if you need immigration sponsorship for your employment, we recommend that you consult with your private immigration counsel at your own expense to ascertain whether your current immigration status would make a potential offer of employment from Texas A&M University subject to this fee.

  • In addition, on January 27, 2026, Texas Governor Abbot issued a moratorium on the filing of any new H-1B unless approved by the Texas Workforce Commission. Job Summary

In a support role, the Assistant Transportation Researcher, under general supervision, conducts transportation planning and policy research using literature review, surveys, interviews, statistical analyses, and independent investigations. Assists with proposal preparation, data collection and compilation, data analysis, and report preparation. Continued employment in this position is contingent upon availability of funding and satisfactory performance.

Essential Duties and Responsiblities

  • Supports PIs with their research studies, including data collection and statisticalbased Geographic Information Systems (GIS) analyses, literature reviews, and other related activities. (40%)

  • Assists PI or researcher with assembling, organizing, synthesizing documents, and archiving data sets, data models, and metadata. (15%)

  • Assists PI or researcher with preparing written reports, technical memoranda, survey and interview findings, and other correspondence. (15%)

  • Assists PI or researcher with developing and delivering presentations. (10%)

  • Assists PI or researcher with preparing proposals. (10%)

  • Interacts with sponsors and potential clients. (5%)

  • Other duties as assigned. (5%)

Required Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Planning, Public Services and Administration or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications. Knowledge of transportation project development process, planning, and public policy.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to present information clearly and concisely.

  • Ability develop, execute, and analyze online surveys.

  • Ability to conduct interviews with research participants and synthesize interviewee information.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with sponsored research in the area of transportation with an emphasis on interdisciplinary work related to energy, utilities, right-of-way, and environment for state departments of transportation and federal agencies.

  • Ability to conduct research projects under supervision from inception to completion, including responsibilities such as sponsor coordination, budget tracking, and task progress tracking.

  • Knowledge of principles of quality and unbiased research.

  • Ability to work independently, but collaboratively on multiple projects.

  • Ability to acquire, analyze and interpret data.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

  • Ability to work strategically on research program goals with oversight from a Program Manager or senior staff.

  • Technical competence of transportation modeling and analysis.

  • Licensed to fly small, unmanned aircraft systems under 14 CFR Part 107 for research purposes.

  • Ability to frequently communicate with other individuals within the workplace.

  • Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery.
