Location: Summit Middle School

Subjects: Language Arts/Social Studies

Anticipated assignment: September 28 - November 5, 2026

Daily substitute rate: $165 per day; increasing to $185 on 11th consecutive day, $235 on 21st consecutive day

$500 incentive to teacher substitutes that work 50 or more days in a semester.

Qualifications, Certification, and Experience:

  • Punctuality and attendance - - regularly begins and ends tasks on time

  • Demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships and works cooperatively with students,

  • parents and staff

  • Project a positive image as an educator in the school and in the community- Promotes a positive image of the Johnston Schools

  • Respects differing points of view

  • Demonstrates an understanding and acceptance of diverse racial, ethnic, cultural, gender, special needs and religious groups

  • Uses discretion in handling confidential information and situations

  • Actively supports expectations of student behaviour outside of the classroom during the school day

  • The teacher demonstrates a positive attitude and manages stress in a constructive manner

  • Curriculum is presented from whole to part with an emphasis on what students should know and be able to do

  • Establishes fair and appropriate classroom rules

  • Corrects inappropriate behaviour in an appropriate and timely manner

  • Modifies lesson plans and instructional techniques as required by student learning styles
