Intern - Technical Services

The Muscatine Power and Water (MPW) A/O Technical Services Department Internship does not require prior knowledge but will help the selected person gain a better understanding of the utility's operations. The intern will have access to support and resources as needed and will have an opportunity for independent work.

Job Description:

• Work with the Sr. Project Engineer and Technical Services Supervisor to complete substation projects.

• Learn applicable NERC standards and how to implement them.

• Work with the Protection and Controls Technician and Substation Technicians to learn about testing and maintaining substation equipment.

• Assist with identifying and excessing obsolete equipment and materials.

• Assist with our maintenance management program.

• Job shadow opportunities in System Control, Metering, Engineering, and Water departments.

Resources:

All the members of the A/O Technical Services Department and the A/O Engineering Department will support the intern and help answer questions as they come up. In addition, the group will meet weekly to track/steer project progress, identify tasks and additional resources needed for upcoming tasks.

Time Frame:

The intern is projected to work 40 hours/week for 9-10 weeks, beginning in late May, but some time off can be scheduled within that time frame.

Outcomes for the Intern:

Gain practical experience with the application of substation technology, equipment, & protection principles

Develop an understanding of how a utility's A/O Technical Services Department operates through a hands-on learning opportunity.

Qualifications:

• Working towards degree in Electrical preferred, prior Engineering Internship is a plus.

• Attention to detail.

• Must possess superior customer service skills and function as a team player.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Excellent interpersonal and listening skills, with ability to build productive professional relationships.

• Must be able to attend work on a regular basis for the duration of the internship.
