Assists with install, maintenance, programming, and repair of traffic signals or similar electrical systems. Assists signal technician in performing field maintenance including replacement of obsolete or damaged signal equipment, cabinets, controllers, poles, anchors, cables, wiring and conduits. Assists with preventative maintenance and inspection on traffic signal equipment to include preemption. Assists with installing, monitoring, and maintaining signal system communications and COHU observation cameras. Assists with installing and repairing flashers maintained by District Six Traffic Signal Shop. Responds to regular traffic signal complaints, and after-hours emergency calls promptly making necessary repairs. Performs general housekeeping to vehicles and equipment. Assists with the operation of large bucket trucks, trucks and trailers. Performs other related duties as assigned. A high school diploma; or an approved acceptable equivalence. A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
Physical Requirement: The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires driving for extended periods, walking, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards. May be subject to a certain degree of risk working with electrical currents. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise on a daily basis.Applications accepted on-line at careers.sc.gov.
