Penn State Health’s GROW career pathway (https://www.pennstatehealth.org/grow-career-pathways)  is a dedicated partnership with HACC, Central PA’s Community College, that offers 100% tuition coverage for the last one to two semesters of the program. Students who are offered and accepted into the GROW program participate with no upfront cost. After earning your certification or degree, you are guaranteed a full-time position at Penn State Health. Students are asked to maintain a full-time position for a minimum of one year following completion of the program. Failure to remain at Penn State Health for the one-year commitment will result in you having to pay back the amount the health system paid for your tuition.

Penn State Health will sponsor students currently enrolled in their last two semesters of the HACC Surgical Technology Program. Students must currently be enrolled in the HACC Surgical Technology Program and graduating in June 2027 to qualify.

The Surgical Tech performs scrub duties. Assists in-patient care and related services in the Operating Room under the guidance of the Registered Nurse. Prepares supplies and equipment for use in surgical procedures. Participates in surgical procedures by adhering to aseptic technique, utilizing safely instruments and equipment and applying the principles of anatomy and physiology to a surgical patient. The Surgical Technologist acts as a preceptor to less technically prepared employees, students and others as indicated. May serve patient populations from neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult to geriatric.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):

Individual must provide evidence of one of the following:

  • Completion of an accredited surgical technologist program and maintains a surgical technologist certification; new graduates of accredited surgical tech programs may obtain certification within six months of graduation.

  • Completion of an appropriate training program for surgical technology in the US Army, Navy, or Air force.

  • Previously employed to practice surgical technology by the hiring Penn State Health (PSH) health care facility on or before December 29, 2020, or had been employed to practice surgical technology as the primary function at another healthcare facility at any time during the two years prior to December 29, 2020.

  • AHA BLS required prior to orientation completion
