Are you someone who pays strong attention to detail, strives for accuracy, enjoys solving problems, and wants an opportunity to grow professionally?

Jackson County Medical Care Facility is seeking a Human Resources Assistant – Pay & Benefits to join our Human Resources team.

This position plays an important role in supporting approximately 330 CarePartners throughout their employment experience. Payroll and benefits administration are primary responsibilities; however, we are looking for more than technical skills. We are seeking someone who brings emotional intelligence, professionalism, curiosity, adaptability, and a genuine commitment to helping others.

The successful candidate will be open-minded about learning and development, receptive to feedback and coaching, willing to share knowledge, and interested in growing as part of a collaborative HR team.

What You’ll Do

As the HR Assistant – Pay & Benefits, you will work closely with the HR team and departments throughout the Facility to provide accurate, timely, and responsive HR support.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Assist with the accurate and timely processing of bi-weekly payroll for union and non-union CarePartners.

  • Review payroll information for accuracy, identify discrepancies, and assist with researching and resolving payroll-related questions.

  • Process benefit enrollments, changes, and terminations and maintain accurate benefit records.

  • Help CarePartners understand available benefits and connect them with appropriate information and resources so they can make informed decisions for themselves and their families.

  • Respond to CarePartner questions with patience, empathy, professionalism, and appropriate confidentiality.

  • Maintain accurate payroll, benefit, and Human Resources records and documentation.

  • Use HR/payroll systems and Microsoft Office applications to organize, analyze, and report information.

  • Collaborate with HR colleagues to solve problems, improve processes, cross-train, and strengthen departmental knowledge.

  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to progressively build knowledge across Human Resources functions.

  • Provide administrative and operational HR support as needed.

What We’re Looking For

Our ideal candidate combines attention to detail and accountability with strong interpersonal skills and a desire to learn.

Successful candidates should demonstrate:

  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.

  • Organization and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

  • Problem-solving skills and a willingness to research questions and identify solutions.

  • Emotional intelligence and the ability to interact respectfully with CarePartners at all levels of the organization.

  • Strong listening and communication skills.

  • Patience and professionalism when assisting CarePartners with questions or concerns.

  • An open-minded approach to learning, coaching, feedback, and professional growth.

  • A collaborative mindset and willingness to both learn from and contribute to the HR team.

  • Sound judgment when working with confidential and sensitive employee information.

  • Dependability and an understanding of the importance of accurate and timely payroll and benefits administration.

Technical Skills & Experience

Experience or knowledge in the following areas is preferred:

  • Payroll processing or payroll administration.

  • Employee benefits administration, including enrollments, changes, terminations, and invoice reconciliation.

  • Experience supporting both union and non-union employees is beneficial.

  • HRIS/payroll systems; experience with Paycor or a similar system is preferred.

  • Microsoft Word and Excel, with intermediate Excel skills preferred, including formulas, reports, and pivot tables.

Candidates who demonstrate strong foundational skills, attention to detail, emotional intelligence, and the willingness and ability to develop additional HR knowledge are encouraged to apply.

A Team Built Around Learning

Our Human Resources department is a small, collaborative team supporting approximately 330 CarePartners across a 24/7 skilled nursing environment.

That means teamwork matters.

We believe a strong HR department is built through shared knowledge, trust, accountability, cross-training, and continuous learning. The HR Assistant will have opportunities to learn from experienced HR professionals, develop broader HR knowledge, contribute ideas, and progressively strengthen their professional skills.

We value team members who are comfortable asking thoughtful questions, receiving and providing constructive feedback, and recognizing that none of us works or develops in isolation.

Why Your Work Matters

Payroll and benefits are personal.

Our CarePartners depend on Human Resources to help ensure their pay is accurate, their benefits are administered appropriately, and their questions are handled with care and respect.

Behind every payroll record, benefit enrollment, deduction, or employee question is a person and their family.

Your attention to detail matters. Your judgment matters. And how you support people when they come to Human Resources matters.

Benefits

Full-time benefits include:

  • Defined Benefit Pension Plan – fully vested after 8 years of service

  • Medical Insurance

  • Dental Insurance

  • Vision Insurance

  • Life Insurance

  • Tuition Reimbursement up to $3,000
