Position Summary:

Arkansas State University invites nominations and applications for the position of Director of Fowler Center. Fowler Center stands at the center of artistic life at Arkansas State University. Serving students, faculty, artists, and the surrounding region, the center houses theatre productions, concerts, museum exhibitions, guest artists, educational programs, conferences, and community events throughout the year. As the home of the Bradbury Art Museum and multiple performance venues, Fowler Center unites visual art, music, theatre, and public engagement under one roof.

Reporting to the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Communication, the Director is responsible for all aspects of building operations and management including event booking, box office, scheduling, staffing, equipment, and property. The Director will have a thorough knowledge and understanding of concepts, principles, and practices of event management; a proven record of booking musical and entertainment talent and academic lectures; and, strong marketing and promotion experience with similar type venues to facilitate fulfillment of A-State’s vision for Fowler Center to be recognized as a premier arts and cultural event center.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Direct management of all academic and public-facing spaces in Fowler

  • Direct booking of top musical and entertainment talent and academic presentations across a variety of venues

  • Direct marketing initiatives for all events in Fowler

  • Direct staff to provide exceptional customer service for each event

  • Oversee financial management of Fowler by preparing a budget based on goals and monitoring expenditures with financial records.

  • Lead recruitment of all staff positions, including full-time, part-time, and student employment

  • Monitor industry trends and news that will have a local impact on the organization

  • Coordinate with the Department of Theatre, Department of Music, and the Bradbury Art Museum for Fowler scheduling and promotional needs as appropriate

  • Conduct key constituent meetings

  • Promote a facility reputation for outstanding customer service

  • Develop a year-round facility maintenance plan, including discussion of long-term improvements and short-term maintenance, working with Facilities Management to define scope of work and cost estimates.

  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge and understanding of concepts, principles and practices of event management

Proven record of effective management of a facility comparable to Fowler Center

Strong marketing and promotion experience with similar-type venues and a proven track record of growing business and enhancing customer experience

Excellent people management skills

General Days/Hours:

Monday - Friday

8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

Additional hours as requested and/or needed

Regular and reliable attendance

This position requires the flexibility to work various hours based upon need and may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays

Minimum Qualifications:

An earned Bachelor’s Degree with an emphasis in Fine Arts, marketing, event management, management, or a related field

Senior-level arena or venue management, substantial marketing, or management job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for education
