Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of the Regulated Hazardous Waste Program ,includingwastecharacterization,manifestreviewandsignature,manifestcorrections,tracking,discrepancyresolution,andidentificationofnewwastestreams.

  • Ensure assigned EH&S programs maintain full regulatory compliance withlocal,state,federal,andinternalenvironmental,health,andsafetyrequirements.

  • Prepare, submit, and maintain required regulatory reports ,permits,registrations,andassociatedfeesubmissionswithinestablisheddeadlines.

  • Monitor and manage environmental compliance obligations ,ensuringdocumentationisaccurate,complete,andaudit-ready.

  • Develop, track, and report service-level metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) todrivecontinuousimprovement,operationalefficiency,andregulatorycompliance.

  • Coordinate licensing, permitting, inspection, and training activities forassignedEH&Sprogramsandmaintainassociatedrecords.

  • Serve as the EH&S representative on cross-functional projects ,providingenvironmentalandsafetyguidanceduringplanning,execution,andimplementationactivities.

  • Support business stakeholders in evaluating environmental and safety risks associatedwithnewprocesses,equipment,facilities,andoperationalchanges.

  • Supervise and coordinate contingent workforce personnel supportingEH&Sprogramsandinitiatives,asneeded.

  • Support ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety Management System requirements ,includingimplementation,maintenance,audits,correctiveactions,andcontinuousimprovementinitiatives.

  • Participate in management system assessments and compliance audits ,ensuringcorrectiveactionsareimplementedandsustained.

  • Drive process standardization and continuous improvement efforts toenhancesafetyperformance,environmentalstewardship,andoperationaleffectiveness.

  • Maintain inspection-ready records and documentation relatedtohazardouswastemanagement,environmentalcompliance,permits,training,andmanagementsystems.

  • Collaborate with regulatory agencies, vendors, contractors, and internal stakeholders toensureeffectiveprogramexecutionandcompliance.

General Responsibilities of EH&S Team Members:

  • Support Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) programs toensurecompliancewithenvironmental,health,safety,andregulatoryrequirements.

  • Conduct workplace hazard assessments andidentify,document,andmitigatepotentialsafetyandenvironmentalrisks.

  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses ,determinerootcauses,andrecommendcorrectiveandpreventiveactions.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain EH&S programs, procedures, and best practices acrosssupportedcustomergroups.

  • Plan, conduct, and document EH&S audits and inspections toensureregulatorycomplianceandcontinuousimprovement.

  • Develop and deliver EH&S training programs ,includingregulatory,environmental,andsafety-relatedtopics.

  • Facilitate New Hire Orientation training andensureemployeesreceiverequiredEH&Seducationandcompliancetraining.

  • Serve as a subject matter resource for EH&S compliance requirements andprovideguidancetoemployees,scientists,andmanagement.

  • Participate as a member of the Emergency Response Team (ERT) ,includingperiodic24-houron-callsupportasrequired.

  • Build strong relationships with staff, scientists, and leadership toprovidehigh-qualitycustomerserviceandsupportEH&Sinitiatives.

  • Act as a primary EH&S point of contact forassignedbusinessunitsandcustomergroups.

  • Assist with implementation and administration of site-wide EH&S programs inaccordancewithlocal,state,andfederalregulations.

  • Promote safety awareness and a proactive safety culture throughcommunication,training,andemployeeengagementinitiatives.

  • Track, analyze, and report EH&S metrics and compliance activities tosupportcontinuousimprovementefforts.

  • Recommend process improvements and corrective actions toreduceriskandenhanceworkplacesafetyandenvironmentalperformance.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree inHealth&Safety,Chemistry,EnvironmentalScience,orarelatedfield with at least 4 years of relevant experience.

OR

  • Master's degree inHealth&Safety,Chemistry,EnvironmentalScience,orarelatedfield with at least 2 years of relevant experience.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite ,including:

  • MicrosoftWord

  • MicrosoftExcel

  • MicrosoftPowerPoint

  • MicrosoftAccess

  • OtherstandardMicrosoftOfficeapplications

  • Knowledge of environmental, health, and safety regulations

  • Understanding of environmental compliance programs andregulatoryreportingrequirements.

  • Knowledge of sustainable business practices andenvironmentalstewardshipinitiatives.

  • Familiarity with ISO 14001 Environmental Management System standards andenvironmentalmanagementprinciples.

  • Strong organizational, documentation, and record-management skills.

  • Ability to interpret regulations, procedures, and technical requirements andapplythemtooperationalenvironments.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills withtheabilitytoidentifyrisksandrecommendcorrectiveactions.

  • Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills withtheabilitytoworkacrossmultiplestakeholdergroups.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects whilemaintainingcomplianceandmeetingdeadlines.

The salary range for this position is: $109,650.00 - $141,900.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.
