Salary Range: $66,300.00 To $72,000.00 Annually

The 14th Street Y is a vibrant Jewish community center located in Downtown Manhattan. Each year, tens of thousands of New Yorkers of all ages, race, and ethnicities come to 14Y as members, visitors, or partners to experience our high quality and varied programs centered around arts and culture, early childhood education, summer camps, fitness and aquatics, Jewish life, and older adult services.

We are seeking an experienced full-time Associate Director of Fitness & Athletics who will provide leadership and oversight for Fitness and Athletic programming and operations at The 14th St Y. The Associate Director will develop and expand high-quality, engaging programs that support member needs, increase participation, and contribute to the departmental revenue. Additional duties include overseeing staff, programming, budgets, safety, equipment, and the overall member experience for fitness related programming and services.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise daily operations of the Fitness Center.

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate fitness and sports programs in partnership with the Senior Director of Member Services.

  • Identify and execute opportunities to expand programming, increase member participation, and generate new revenue.

  • Oversee the development and growth of sports including pickleball, basketball, and other sports programming.

  • Plan, schedule, and evaluate Fitness and Athletics programs based on member needs and participation trends.

  • Monitor program participation, revenue, expenses, and overall performance to identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Support membership sales department in new member onboarding and coordinate personal training services and scheduling.

  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate personal trainers, instructors and fitness associates.

  • Oversee the scheduling, management, maintenance, and repair of fitness equipment.

  • Promote a welcoming, professional, and proactive member experience across all fitness services.

  • Respond to member needs, questions, and concerns and ensure appropriate follow-up.

  • Monitor adherence to customer service standards and guidelines.

  • Collaborate with Facilities to maintain a safe environment and improve emergency and safety procedures.

  • Serve as a Lead Manager for emergency response as needed; participate in emergency and safety trainings as needed.

  • Work collaboratively with Membership, Sales, Operations, and other departments to strengthen member engagement and program participation and keep our facilities in good shape

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.

  • Current CPR certification required

  • Experience leading and creating fitness, wellness, sports, recreation, or community-center programs.

  • Personal Training, Group Fitness, or related certifications preferred

  • Strong leadership, supervisory, organizational, and administrative skills.

  • Experience recruiting, training, coaching, and evaluating staff.

  • Experience developing and managing programs, preferably including revenue-generating programs.

  • Strong customer service and member engagement skills

  • Knowledge of current fitness, wellness, sports, and recreation trends.

  • Knowledge of fitness equipment and facility operations.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in an active fitness environment and respond appropriately to emergencies.
