Full job description

Description

Amazon’s Legal department is seeking a seasoned attorney to lead the AWS Energy and Water legal team. This is a global leadership role, responsible for partnering with business, technical and policy leaders to shape the energy and water strategy for the most extensive cloud infrastructure in the world, during a generational infrastructure build-out.

In this role, you will lead the legal strategy and execution for how AWS engages with utilities, power producers and regulators, enables new infrastructure, and supports innovative, carbon-free energy projects. You will manage a globally distributed team of transactional and regulatory experts, and oversee an industry-leading portfolio of complex energy and water matters including first-of-kind deal structures, high-stakes engagements in energy regulatory proceedings, and one of the world’s largest renewable energy procurement programs. You will advise senior AWS leadership on energy procurement strategy, the rapidly evolving regulatory and compliance landscape, and complex disputes – and directly support Amazon's ambitious Climate Pledge commitment to reach net-zero carbon by 2040.

This is a unique opportunity for a legal leader who desires global impact on the energy and datacenter infrastructure landscape.

Basic Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor and membership in one state bar or equivalent

  • 3+ years of direct people management, including managing managers or senior individual contributors experience

  • At least 10 years’ post-qualification legal experience in energy infrastructure projects (including construction, financing, regulatory strategy and/or procurement)

  • Demonstrated capability to work independently and make decisive legal recommendations to senior leaders in fast-paced, ambiguous environments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in private practice or in house experience at a technology company or equivalent

  • Demonstrated capability to identify and execute on opportunities (including through use of AI) to scale and simplify legal operations and empower business teams to self-service

  • Energy regulatory experience

  • Experience with emerging and carbon-free energy sources and technologies
