Position Overview

The Engagement Manager II (EM II) is a delivery leadership position owning the end-to-end execution of services and projects for a strategic technology client, across a range of workstreams that may include AI/GenAI initiatives. Strong program and project management skills are central to the role, including experience with pitching, developing solutions and approaches, team management, workflow oversight, client interactions, and reporting. Familiarity with how AI/ML-related engagements are scoped, resourced, and measured is a valuable plus but not a prerequisite.

The EM II owns contract management and service delivery for their portfolio and provides guidance and mentorship to a team of Delivery Resources operating at the Line of Business level with partners across the enterprise.

The Engagement Manager Ii creates and nurtures relationships with strategic client stakeholders, establishing the role of partner, or trusted advisor, and is measured by customer satisfaction, customer retention/expansion, financial targets achieved, and billable utilization across all engagements in their portfolio. The ability to effectively communicate both up and downstream is a must, along with a results-oriented and positive attitude.

The responsibilities below are not exhaustive and may require adjustment based on internal and client requirements.

The EM II will ideally work PST hours, but we are open to remote locations across the U.S.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

Program Management: Oversee multiple engagements with varying delivery models for a strategic client ensuring that objectives are achieved, delivered according to schedule, and within budget.

Strategic Client Relationship Management: Build rapport with client stakeholders to understand their long-term goals, aligns services accordingly, and stay informed on industry trends to inform value-based conversations acting as a proactive, strategic, customer-focused trusted advisor to clients and internal partners alike.

Stakeholder Communication: Regularly inform internal and external stakeholders about the progress, challenges, and results of engagement activities.

Engagement Value Realization: Map the client organization, assess engagement-to-business line ratio, and identify opportunities where engagements align with business impact. Use value-framework content in business reviews to show how the organization delivers value to clients.

Team Leadership and Development: Lead, coach, and develop a team of delivery resources including direct reports through regular feedback, performance reviews, and hands-on mentorship, building a high-performing team culture focused on continuous improvement and growth.

Financial Management: Manage the financial aspects of engagements, including budgeting, forecasting, and ensuring profitability.

Risk Management and Mitigation: Identify potential risks early and implementing strategies to mitigate them, ensuring engagement stability.

Optimization: Develop methodologies to gather qualitative and quantitative data that drive further optimization for internal teams and clients.

Governance, Reporting & Client Storytelling: Establish appropriate governance and ensure structure and controls are followed. Lead client Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) and other executive-facing reporting, translating engagement data and dashboards into a clear, compelling narrative for senior stakeholders.

Collaboration: Work well with cross-functional teams, fostering a collaborative environment to achieve common goals.

Analytical Mindset: Tell a story based on identified metrics and KPIs, aligned to organizational ROI and why it is important for the growth and direction of the company.

Required Experience

Minimum of 6 years of experience in project management or program management roles within large, complex environments

Proven track record of successfully managing complex projects and portfolios, with strong client relationship management skills, the ability to manage expectations, and build trust as a strategic advisor

Experience in service delivery alignment with contractual agreements, SLAs, and compliance

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including experience estimating project scope, managing budgets and project burn, and making data-driven decisions

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate effectively and experience presenting to clients and senior leadership

Experience managing direct reports, including performance reviews, feedback, and training

Highly organized and detail-oriented with strong time-management skills and the ability to multitask across multiple projects and solve problems autonomously under pressure

Preferred Experience

Experience or demonstrated working familiarity with AI/ML-related projects or programs (e.g., data annotation, model evaluation, AI training, or similar GenAI delivery)

Familiarity with AI/GenAI concepts and terminology (e.g., LLM evaluation, RLHF, prompt engineering, agentic tooling)

Experience in the IT Professional Services industry

Certification in project management (PMP, PRINCE2, etc.)

Experience with Agile methodologies: Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, XP

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Chicago, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $105000.00 - $150000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

We reserve the right to pay above or below the posted wage based on factors unrelated to sex, race, or any other protected classification.
