Job Summary 36 hours, day/night rotation

Join Ellison 8, a specialized 36 bed cardiac surgical step-down unit caring for adult patients recovering from some of the most advanced heart procedures available. This role offers experienced RNs the opportunity to care for patients with complex cardiac conditions, including coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, aortic disease, and congenital heart disease, following procedures such as coronary artery bypass grafting, valve replacement, heart transplantation, and ventricular assist device (VAD) placement. Nurses on Ellison 8 play a critical role in both recovery and education, partnering with patients and families to promote cardiac risk factor modification and support long term heart health in a highly collaborative, patient focused environment.

Summary Accountable for interpreting the plan of medical care, assessment of patients' clinical decision-making regarding nursing care, assuring nursing care is provided in a safe and competent manner, providing individualized nursing care, and evaluating nursing care for groups of patients.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain accurate, detailed reports, and records.
  • Administer medications to patients and monitor patients for reactions or side effects.
  • Record patients' medical information and vital signs.
  • Monitor, record, and report symptoms or changes in patients' conditions.
  • Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate patient care plans.
  • Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses and conditions.

Qualifications

Ideal candidate will have:

  • BSN strongly preferred
  • One year of cardiac surgery nursing experience strongly preferred

Education

  • Associate's Degree Nursing required or Bachelor's Degree Nursing preferred

Licenses and Credentials

  • Registered Nurse RN - MA License

Experience

  • Clinical nursing experience 0-1 year required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Familiarity with the principles and skills needed for practical nursing to provide patient care and treatment.
  • Knowledgeable of the care required by respective age groups for which care is being provided.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and secure sensitive information.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills.
  • Ability to accurately screen and triage acute patients.
