Full job description

Description

We are looking for an accomplished Controller to direct accounting and financial operations for a growing Construction client near Haltom City, Texas. This position will guide the close process, deliver reliable financial reporting, and provide insight into project and operational performance through strong cost analysis and work-in-progress reporting. The role also partners closely with leadership and operational teams to support budgeting, forecasting, cash management, and sound financial decision-making.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct day-to-day accounting activities across the general ledger, payables, receivables, payroll, and fixed asset functions to maintain accurate financial records.

  • Produce and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring reports are completed on schedule and aligned with company standards.

  • Lead the month-end close cycle, resolving discrepancies promptly and strengthening the accuracy and timeliness of reporting.

  • Maintain detailed work-in-progress schedules and evaluate project financial results to highlight profitability trends and risks.

  • Analyze job costs, labor performance, indirect cost allocation, and overall project results to improve operational visibility.

  • Collaborate with operations and project leadership to support better financial planning, stronger margin control, and improved project outcomes.

  • Oversee the annual budget, periodic forecasting, and cash flow planning processes to support business growth and liquidity needs.

  • Coordinate external audits, tax-related reporting, and banking activities while reinforcing internal controls and financial procedures.

  • Recommend reporting enhancements, process improvements, and system optimization opportunities that increase efficiency and decision support.

  • Present financial analysis and actionable recommendations to executive leadership to support strategic planning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related discipline.

  • At least 7 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance roles.

  • Prior leadership experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or in a similar financial management position.

  • Demonstrated background in construction, manufacturing, industrial services, engineering, or another project-driven environment.

  • Strong expertise in job costing, work-in-progress reporting, and cash flow forecasting.

  • Solid understanding of percentage-of-completion accounting and financial statement preparation.

  • Advanced Excel capabilities with the ability to analyze and interpret complex financial data.
