Full job description

At Sword, we’re building AI to heal billions and unlock humanity’s full potential. In doing so, we’re pioneering AI Care, a fundamentally new approach to healthcare built for medical reasoning, safety, and real-time treatment, not generic technology applied after the fact. As both a clinical-centric frontier AI lab and an applied AI platform, Sword is reimagining how care is delivered at scale, removing traditional barriers like appointments, waiting rooms, and stigma so more people can access the care they need—and ultimately get back to lives lived in full.

Since 2020, Sword has expanded across physical therapy, women’s health, cardiometabolic, and mental health, and is now moving beyond the session to a fully AI-native, 24/7 care program that brings physical activity, therapeutic exercise, psychotherapy, nutrition, and behavior change into one connected experience. More than 700,000 members across three continents have completed over 10 million AI sessions, helping 1,000+ enterprise clients avoid more than $1 billion in unnecessary healthcare costs. Backed by 42 clinical studies, 44+ patents, and more than $500 million raised from leading investors including Khosla Ventures, General Catalyst, and Founders Fund, Sword is defining a new standard for healthcare.

AI Proficiency at Sword

AI fluency is a core expectation at Sword. Every candidate is assessed against our three-level framework — be ready to share real examples of how AI is already part of how you work.

• Explorer (Level 1) — Uses AI daily to boost personal productivity

• Builder (Level 2) — Creates workflows and tools that elevate the whole team

• Integrator (Level 3) — Embeds AI into products and processes at scale

Every hire must demonstrate at least Level 1. The expected level will vary depending on the seniority of the role.

Role:

As an Android Engineer in Consumer Growth at Sword, you’ll build experiences that turn initial interest into lasting engagement with our consumer products. You’ll work across acquisition entry points, onboarding, subscription conversion, activation, and retention. Partnering with Product, Design, Data, Marketing, and backend engineers, you’ll ship experiments, understand their impact, and evolve successful ideas into high-quality Android experiences. This role combines native Android engineering with product curiosity: you’ll help determine what to improve, how to measure it, and what to build next

What you’ll be doing:

  • Build and improve Android experiences across onboarding, account creation, paywalls, subscriptions, and ongoing engagement;

  • Create smooth transitions from acquisition campaigns and web journeys into the app through deep links and reliable navigation;

  • Implement subscription purchase flows, purchase restoration, and entitlement handling in collaboration with backend engineers;

  • Deliver controlled experiments using feature flags, targeted experiences, and accurate analytics instrumentation;

  • Partner with Product, Design, and Data to identify friction, define experiment requirements, and evaluate results after release;

  • Build reusable UI components and application foundations that make subsequent experiments easier to deliver;

  • Maintain app performance, accessibility, stability, and responsive behavior across supported devices and Android versions;

  • Own features through implementation, testing, release, monitoring, and iteration;

  • Use AI tools to accelerate development while validating generated code and preserving engineering quality.

What you need to have:

  • Experience shipping and maintaining production Android applications;

  • Strong proficiency in Kotlin and experience building interfaces with Jetpack Compose;

  • Solid understanding of Android architecture, lifecycle management, coroutines, state management, and navigation;

  • Experience integrating APIs and handling loading, failure, and interrupted user journeys gracefully;

  • Experience with automated testing, debugging, and performance analysis;

  • Ability to instrument user journeys and use product data to inform engineering decisions;

  • Good product judgment and attention to interaction quality, accessibility, and user trust;

  • Ability to work across disciplines, communicate trade-offs, and own features from concept through production;

  • Practical experience using AI in your engineering workflow and critically reviewing its output;

  • Fluent English, written and spoken.

Nice To Have:

  • Experience with Google Play Billing, subscriptions, or RevenueCat;

  • Experience with A/B testing, feature flags, acquisition attribution, or Android App Links;

  • Experience improving conversion, activation, or retention in a consumer application;

  • Familiarity with push notifications and lifecycle engagement experiences.
