Failure Analysis Engineer | San Jose, CA

Are you passionate about solving complex hardware issues and driving product quality improvements? An industry-leading technology organization is seeking a Failure Analysis Engineer to join its engineering team supporting advanced server and data center hardware products.

In this role, you will investigate customer returns, field failures, and manufacturing escalations, performing deep root cause analysis at the system, board, and component levels. You will partner closely with engineering, quality, manufacturing, and product teams to identify corrective actions and improve overall product reliability.

Failure Analysis Engineer

  • Number of openings: 5

  • Shift: 2 Day Shift 3 Swing Shift (3:30pm-11:30pm PST)

  • Employment type: Full-time, direct hire; exempt status

  • Base salary range: $70,000 – $80,000 per year + Annual discretionary Performance Bonus

  • Must have at least 2-3 years of hands on, direct or related experience working with PCBs.

Key Responsibilities: • Perform hardware failure analysis on server and PCBA-level products • Troubleshoot complex electrical and electronic systems using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, DMMs, and related equipment • Conduct root cause investigations for customer-returned and field-failure products • Analyze schematics, board layouts, and assembly drawings • Support RMA investigations and continuous improvement initiatives • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to resolve hardware issues and improve product quality • Develop troubleshooting methodologies, test tools, and technical documentation

What We're Looking For: • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field • Experience troubleshooting hardware at the system, board, or component level • Knowledge of Linux environments and hardware debugging techniques • Familiarity with server technologies, PCBAs, circuit analysis, and failure analysis methodologies • Experience with Python, SQL, or similar scripting/programming languages is a plus • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
