Responsibilities
The CDS Supervisor is responsible for the implementation and improvement of the clinical documentation improvement program at the facility and supervises clinical documentation specialists (CDS). Ensures CDS perform their designated tasks synergistically with other concerned departments and personnel. Work closely with the Director of CDI/Data Quality, CDS Manager and/or CDS Supervisor, Supervisor of Health Information Department, and Director/ Supervisor of Case Management to be instrumental in supplementing assistance to these departmental functions pertaining to clinical documentation. CDS Supervisor will work closely with the medical staff to formulate strategies to improve the quality of clinical documentation. Other responsibilities include as designated by the given supervisor(s).
Qualifications
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
Required qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Medicine/ Surgery or license as a physician assistant or registered nurse.

A minimum of two years’ experience as a clinical documentation specialist.

Extensive knowledge of nursing care, clinical measurement tools, and clinical outcomes; ability to establish a cooperative working relationship with diverse groups and individuals, the medical staff, and other healthcare disciplines; program and database development

Certification as Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or acquiring CCS certification within 6 months of assuming the position

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Excellent critical thinking skills.

Computer literacy and familiarity with the operation of basic office equipment.

Working knowledge of the Medicare reimbursement system and coding structures
Preferred qualifications:
-
Working knowledge of inpatient admission criteria.

Ability to work independently in a time-oriented environment.

Possess the ability to work with minimum supervision, the ability to function in a stressful environment, the ability to encourage and assist with team building, excellent writing and verbal skills, and the ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information, both patient and employee.

A reasonable compensation estimate for this role, which includes estimated wages, benefits, and other forms of compensation, is $32.00 to $47.04. The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, in which a wide range of factors will be considered, including but not limited to, skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure.
