Summary
Deliver secure and high availability infrastructure solutions supporting VA's mission. Serve as an operational service provider of foundational compute, storage, physical database, and client management components. Implement and sustain technical, management, and operational security controls and supporting processes to protect mission critical networks, systems, and applications throughout the VA enterprise. Duties
Review all plans for modification or construction of the facilities for quality control and to ensure compliance with the agency policies, and federal codes and standards. Provide support for construction activities and is responsible for the professional integrity of projects and ensuring project design and installation meet established cost, schedule, quality, and performance requirements. Comprehensive, intensive, practical knowledge of electrical systems for data centers, office buildings, and skill in applying this knowledge to solve complex problems and issues involving interrelationships between facilities, information technology, security, and safety requirements while maintaining mission critical operations 24/7. Responsible for the application, design, construction, repair, and maintenance of the electrical distribution systems within the facility, including all emergency power systems and subsystems. Oversee, direct, and administer the program, including, but not limited to strategic planning, budget, project development, design, construction, repair/rehab, and maintenance for the building and site; also, project development, design, implementation, evaluation, close-out duties. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8am-4:30pm Compressed/Flexible: Compressed/flexible schedule available at the manager's discretion. Telework: This position may be authorized for ADHOC telework. Physical Requirements: Most work is sedentary. However, there is often a requirement for moderate physical exertion such as walking on uneven or rough surfaces, standing for long periods of time, bending, carrying light tools, climbing ladders, and similar activities related to full inspection of construction and maintenance activities. The employee must be able to lift a thirty (30) pound load without difficulty. Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/17/2026. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Basic Requirements: This standard allows eligibility through meeting either the education or experience requirement requirements for a General Engineer, GS-0801-13. A Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program OR Combination of education and experience in engineering as specified by OPM, including coursework in mathematics, physics, and engineering sciences OR Registration as a Professional Engineer by a US State, Territory, or Commonwealth. AND Specialized Experience for GS-13: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level. Specialized Experience is engineering experience with electrical and mechanical system operations supporting a data center environment. Expert knowledge of quality control and Federal codes and standards. Ability to oversee planning, budget, project development, design, construction and maintenance. Capable of applying this knowledge in solving complex problems while maintaining 24/7 data center operations. AND Selective Placement Factor: Engineering experience with electrical and mechanical system infrastructure design and operation supporting a 24/7 data center environment.
