Union Hospital offers a wide range of surgical services. Whether patients require a minimally invasive procedure or major surgery, the surgical teams provide patients with excellent care. The Surgery Center is equipped with the latest surgical and monitoring tools, allowing caregiver to perform a diverse array of procedures in Orthopaedic, General, Urologic, Podiatric and Gynecologic surgery. As a Surgical Services Support Technician, you will help create a safe and sterile environment for surgical operations and other procedures. You will act as a patient advocate, ensuring sterile technique to prevent infections and ensuring that team is functioning in the role they are assigned to. You will be exposed to the latest technologies, offering a unique opportunity to gain invaluable medical knowledge through hands-on experience.

A caregiver in this position works days from 8:00AM - 4:30PM.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Safely transport patients to designated areas per nursing requests.

  • Assist nursing caregivers during surgical cases as requested.

  • Maintain and control support services equipment and supplies.

  • Maintain the OR in an aesthetically safe and sanitary condition.

  • Escort and direct customers to the appropriate source for assistance.

  • Provide a safe environment for patients and their families.

  • Enter job tasks into electronic computer software systems.

  • Assist in prepping and shaving patients for surgery.

  • Coordinate and maintain uniform room activities, such as locker assignments and scrubs.

  • Properly handle and dispose of hazardous waste.

  • Comply with special cleaning requests for radioactive waste and infection control surgical cases.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross upon hire or within new hire period

  • One year of customer service experience AND experience working in a team environment

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of body motion including ability to lift and/or bear the weight of 100 pounds with assistance, or more while pulling, lifting, pushing and transferring patients to and from various apparatus; regularly pushes moderate to heavy weight of 100 pounds or more.

  • Exposure to body fluids.

  • Must be available for flexible scheduling according to the needs of the surgical area.

  • Floating may be expected per assignment policies within the surgical support department.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $18.50

Maximum hourly: $25.20

The pay range displayed on this job posting reflects the anticipated range for new hires. A successful candidate's actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate's work history, experience, skill set and education. The pay range displayed does not include any applicable pay practices (e.g., shift differentials, overtime, etc.).
