This position exists to provide the administrative and clerical services necessary to process the incoming and outgoing institution mail, facility services, incarcerated individual correspondence and packages, and to document a wide variety of legal and financial transactions for incarcerated individuals and institution staff. All responsibilities must be performed with an emphasis on security to ensure that no contraband, unauthorized mail, or items enter the institution through the mailroom.
Minimum Qualifications
To be qualified for and considered for this position, applicants must meet all of the minimum qualifications listed below. Typing/keyboarding skills sufficient to operate basic computer systems to complete data entry tasks.

Database skills sufficient to maintain inventory records.

Basic math skills sufficient to maintain accurate data.

Customer service skills sufficient to exchange information and respond to questions in a courteous and respectful manner.

Ability to read and speak English sufficient to read, sort, distribute mail, and communicate with customers.

Skilled in using spreadsheet software (preferably Microsoft Excel) sufficient to design, enter, and manipulate spreadsheets.
Preferred Qualifications
The following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seeking consideration for this position

Experience in a correctional environment

Experience in a mailroom environment

Knowledge of DOC policies related to offender property, canteen, and mailroom.

Word processing skills (preferably Microsoft Word) sufficient to prepare documents that are grammatically correct, in proper format, and free of spelling errors.

Experience handling private, confidential data.

Two (2) or more years of post-secondary education
Physical Requirements
The selected finalist is required to review and sign a Physical Demands Analysis (PDA) for this position. Additional Requirements
The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check which includes successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation.
Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records.
New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.
The Minnesota Department of Corrections (DOC) does not participate in E-Verify. The DOC will not sponsor applicants for work visas, including F-1 STEM OPT extensions. All applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
