Looking for a role that keeps you moving, challenges you every day, and puts you at the center of real-world construction projects? Join Colliers Engineering & Design as a Field Technician II in Middletown, Delaware.
As part of our team, you'll be out in the field performing testing and inspection services for soil, asphalt, concrete, and masonry on active construction sites. This is a hands-on opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors, solving problems in the field, and working with a team that takes pride in delivering high-quality results.
This is a temporary position with an anticipated start date between January 1, 2027 and January 15, 2027. The assignment is expected to last approximately 8 to 9 months and may be extended based on project requirements and business needs. Whether you're looking to expand your experience or take on a new challenge, this role offers the chance to make an immediate impact while working on meaningful projects.
Responsibilities

Complete daily reports and testing documents completely and timely.

Transport, handle and maintain equipment and supplies responsibly and effectively.

Accurately interpret civil engineering site drawings and structural details.

Assist with asphalt or concrete coring.
-
Become proficient in soil and rock classification systems.

Communicate effectively with management, contractors, and clients both verbally and in writing.

Work independently with supervision.

Comply with internal and client Health & Safety and testing policies if applicable.
-
Ability to work weekend, evening, and overtime work based on project needs; overnight travel may occasionally be required with this position.

Test concrete for slump, air content, unit weight, temperature, and fabricate concrete cylinders.

Test engineered fill using field density methods or familiar with Construction Material Testing.
-
Perform soil moisture-density tests and oversized aggregate corrections.
-
Accurately interpret civil engineering site drawings and structural details or familiar with Geotechnical Engineering.

Technical observation of test borings, test pits and perform field permeability tests.
Qualifications
-
High School diploma/equivalent; Associates Degree in engineering and science related field.
-
2+ years of related experience.
-
Construction Material Testing: Achieve ICC certification; Required: ACI, Asphalt (State Specific) and Nuclear Density Gauge Certification, OSHA 10 required and OSHA 40 if applicable.

Geotechnical Engineering: OSHA 10 required and OSHA 40 if applicable. Must have a valid driver’s license.

Demonstrate general computer skills, knowledge, and acumen (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite).

Ability to learn and apply technical skills and knowledge.

Ability to read plans and specifications and knowledge of industry practices and materials for construction.

Ability to use technology such as laptop, tablet & smart phone.

Ability to prioritize tasks and overall workload.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.
-
Ability to effectively work as part of a team (i.e. collaborate, contribute, respect others).

Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.
