Job Description
Monitors departmental operations to promote safe, efficient, and quality performance standards for patients, visitors, and employees. Actively promotes a lean work culture by performing team member duties to encourage consistent use of safe principles, processes and compliance, including continually seeking work process improvements.
Experience
- 5 years of experience in MRI
- 1 year of supervisory experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- 1 year of pediatric experience
Education
- Associates degree
Certification Summary
- Registered by American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists, or Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of employment
- American Board of Magnetic Resonance Safety (ABMRS) certified within two years of hire
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must understand all MRI safety standards and pass the MRI department safety courses with an 80% or better score
Job Responsibilities
- Develops, introduces, and ensures proper policies, procedures, and safe working practices for day-to-day MR operations are enforced after full consultation with MRMD and MRSE.
- Coordinates and organizes MRI Safety Committee to ensure appropriate measures for managing hazards and minimizing risks to health that arise from the use of or exposure to the MR equipment are implemented and monitored for protection of staff and patients.
- Provides safety advice regarding the selection, procurement, and installation of MR-related equipment (in consultation with the MRSE, if/as needed) as well as for the modification of MR protocols (in consultation with the MRMD/MRSE, if/as needed).
- Assures the teaching of basic physical principles and application of Magnetic Resonance to a wide range of clinical and support staff in both formal and informal settings. This includes coordinating education programs, tutorials and maintaining training records.
- Ensures safety is maintained for all staff by providing guidance of magnetic resonance safety as outlined in Medical Devices Agency documentation. Must recommend restriction of access to the equipment and ensure regular safety training for staff.
- Ensures maintenance and continual readiness for system and departmental accreditation (Joint Commission and American College of Radiology) site visits by conducting regular tracer activities and providing department leadership with compliance progress. Participates in department and modality specific quality improvement initiatives.
- Interacts with other healthcare workers (e.g., department leadership team and educators) to provide information and identify, develop, implement, assess, and report strategies that result in improved departmental processes.
- Gathers and analyzes quality and performance improvement data and submits reports to national data registries, system committees, and departmental leadership team.
- Demonstrates consistent proficiency in performing magnetic resonance imaging examinations, using appropriate standardized protocols to produce the highest quality images, and evaluating images for technical quality prior to sending to picture archiving and communication system for interpretation by radiologists.
- Participates in achievement of organizational and departmental goals and attends all educational activities.
- Demonstrates continual service excellence by performing smile/greet/own/thanks and lead/empathize/act/deliver behaviors.
- Demonstrates care competencies that incorporate age-specific guidelines, including N = Neonate (less than 30 days), I = Infant (30 days to 1 year), EC = Early Childhood (1-5 years), LC = Late Childhood (5-13 years), A = Adolescent (13-17 years), AD = Adult, and ALL = all ages.
