Summary

About the Position: This position is located at 78th Medical Group at Robins Air Force Base, Houston County, Georgia. It is located near the city of Warner Robins, Georgia. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation. Incentives MAY be authorized.

Duties

  • Perform complex laboratory tests and examinations in the chemistry, serology, hematology, urinalysis, immunohematology, and microbiology sections of the laboratory.
  • Select appropriate test methodology to use and recognize when test values are positive or exceed a defined decision limit.
  • Evaluate validity of data in relation to the test system and assay procedures.
  • Conduct diagnostic tests on species of bacteria for positive identification.
  • Calibrate analyzers and other equipment and run quality control samples to ensure validity of tests.
  • Advise doctors and clinic personnel on specimen collection and submission.
  • Draw blood by venipuncture and take capillary blood samples for test procedures.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing testing procedures in a clinical laboratory; maintaining clinical laboratory equipment; and preparing reports and/or documenting results through automated systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). AND Certification Requirement: This position has a selective placement factor which must be met prior to employment and for continued employment: This position requires a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) Certification. Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologist (AMT) or other board or registry deemed comparable by Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs (OASD(HA)) or their designee as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) is required. Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
