Job Description

Grow your career at Cedars-Sinai!

Why does aging simultaneously impair host defense while increasing susceptibility to inflammatory disease? How do tissue-resident stromal cells and their memory of prior exposures reshape immune function over the lifespan?

About the Team

The Allen lab is a new lab opening at Cedars-Sinai this Fall and is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scientist to join this effort. The Postdoctoral Scientist will lead projects investigating how the lung parenchyma shapes immune function using a combination of in vivo mouse models, genetic perturbation, immune-stromal co-culture and other functional assays, as well as single-cell and spatial genomics.

Our lab studies how the lung parenchyma shapes immune responses, with a particular focus on how aging alters these interactions. Building on prior work defining stromal–immune circuits that drive inflammatory T cell responses in the aged lung (Allen et al., Immunity 2026), we aim to further dissect how these interactions maintain tissue homeostasis and contribute to disease.

About the Role

Working independently but in close cooperation and in consultation with the Principal Investigator and other Research Scientists, the Postdoctoral Scientist will perform routine and complex laboratory procedures throughout training period. The incumbent may develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols. May assist in preparation of grant proposals. Participates in publications and presentations as author or co-author. This position is not responsible for generating grant funds.

The Postdoctoral Scientist will conduct research related to thrombosis and cellular therapy, design and perform experiments, analyze and interpret data, prepare scientific presentations and manuscripts, and collaborate with other members of the laboratory and research community. The position will also support the development of ongoing projects and contribute to the new initiative at Cedars-Sinai.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Keeps appropriate experimental records and documentation and analyzes the results with the Principal Investigator.

  • Operates and maintains equipment and instruments.

  • May design and perform experiments.

  • Analyzes, interprets, summarizes, and compiles data.

  • May observe MD-patient or MD-human research subject interactions as it pertains directly to research being performed.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Doctorate degree in area directly related to field of research specialization.

Experience and Skills:

  • Works independently on research projects designed together with the mentor within area of specialization.

  • Acquires technical and theoretical knowledge of research projects and objectives during one to four (1-4) year post-doctoral appointment.

  • Experience working with mouse models is strongly preferred.

  • Training in immunology, cell and molecular biology is preferred.

  • Experience with flow cytometry is preferred.

  • Computational experience and/or familiarity with high-dimensional datasets (e.g., single-cell or spatial genomics) is preferred.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to work collaboratively as well as independently are required.
