Minimum Qualifications

PhD in Mexican American studies or closely related field (with graduate coursework in Mexican American Studies) such as Ethnic Studies, English, or History. Applicants must present evidence of active research that includes publications in peer-reviewed journals; potential to effectively teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels; potential to supervise and mentor clinical and research activities of students; potential to maintain active programmatic research, and potential to obtain external grant funding.

Discipline Specific Required Qualifications

Preparation to teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in Mexican American Studies and Digital Humanities required.

Preferred Qualifications

Research focus on regional Latinx/ Chicanx / Caribbean diasporas supported by community engaged scholarship through New Technologies & Media Studies preferred (including but not limited to: generative Artificial Intelligence, new media and social media, digital archiving & preservation, audio visual production, and public humanities).

Additional Information

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program ( ORP ) instead of TRS , subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
