GENERAL FUNCTIONS:
The Student Assistant in the Online Learning office will focus on: student retention through outreach efforts, triage foot traffic in the office (greeting and assisting faculty, staff, students, and community members as needed). The student will interact via phone calls, mailings, virtual events, and discussions in virtual community spaces. This position may also work with digital video and VR content, special projects, and routine office functions.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following are typical responsibilities associated with this position. The specific responsibilities may vary and will be assigned accordingly by the supervisor.

Make phone calls and assist with mailings to new online students

Assist with open house/orientation activities, both virtually and in-person

Monitor and participate in Online Learning virtual student communities

Assist students with Brightspace, Microsoft 365, and college email use

Optionally, assist in the development of Online Learning content videos and VR spaces

Assist Online Learning staff with various projects
Job Requirements:
SKILLS REQUIRED:
-
Customer service-oriented with excellent phone communication skills
-
Friendly online persona and willingness to interact in virtual spaces
-
Experience with Brightspace (ideal candidate will have some online course experience)

Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
-
Experience with video creation/editing is a plus, but not required
-
Willing to learn about online courses and how they differ from in-person
-
Dependable, professional, and organized
-
Enthusiastic GCC student with a positive attitude
Equipment Used:
Phone, printer, computer, and optional video recording suite.
