Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Phlebotomist to join a busy outpatient healthcare practice. The Phlebotomist will be responsible for collecting blood specimens, processing laboratory samples, and ensuring a positive patient experience while maintaining compliance with all safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collections on patients of varying ages. Verify patient identity and review laboratory orders prior to specimen collection. Properly label, process, package, and transport specimens according to established procedures. Enter and maintain accurate patient and specimen information within electronic medical record and laboratory systems. Monitor specimen integrity and ensure compliance with quality standards. Maintain infection control practices and adhere to OSHA, HIPAA, and safety requirements. Prepare and stock phlebotomy supplies and maintain a clean work environment. Provide exceptional customer service and patient care during all interactions. Collaborate with providers, nurses, medical assistants, and laboratory personnel to support patient care. Assist with front office or administrative duties as needed.
Skills and Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 1 year of phlebotomy experience in a clinical, laboratory, hospital, or outpatient setting.
- Experience with specimen processing and laboratory documentation.
- Strong attention to detail and patient-focused communication skills.
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems and basic computer applications.
- Completion of an accredited Phlebotomy training program preferred.
- National phlebotomy certification (CPT, PBT, or equivalent) preferred.
- Current BLS certification preferred.
