Full job description

UPMC Western Maryland is seeking a Casual Sonographer to join their team of life-changers!

The Sonographer performs imaging procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. They competently perform a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative, in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.

  • Assists physicians with invasive procedures, adhering to universal protocol standards.

  • Interacts with patients and co-workers, displaying caring, listening, dignity, and respect.

  • Communicates instructions clearly to patients, explaining procedures to alleviate fears.

  • Ensures exams are properly coded, tracked, networked, and charges entered.

  • Identifies patients using two identifiers and reviews patient history and physician orders.

  • Documents patient history in electronic records as required.

  • May handle High-Level Disinfection of devices, supplies, and equipment.

  • Obtains and documents cross-sectional anatomy images, correlating measurements with data charts.

  • Performs technical ultrasound procedures, using appropriate instrumentation and techniques.

  • Completion of formal training in an Ultrasound program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) is required.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
