Robert Half is partnering with a well-established regional consumer finance organization that has served customers throughout the Midwest for decades. Known for its commitment to helping individuals access financing solutions and achieve financial stability, this growing company is seeking a detail-oriented Legal & Collections Assistant to join its team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with collections, legal support, bankruptcy processing, or compliance experience who is looking to build a long-term career with a stable and growing organization. Successful candidates will possess strong judgment, exceptional attention to detail, and a solid understanding of collection regulations and legal documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and organize charged-off account files for legal review and processing.

  • Assist with bankruptcy administration, including proof of claim preparation and filing.

  • Maintain accurate account records and ensure proper documentation of account activity.

  • Process and post payments while ensuring data accuracy.

  • Coordinate and distribute legal documentation to attorneys and third-party partners.

  • Conduct outbound and inbound customer communications regarding account resolutions and payment arrangements.

  • Research account information and assist with customer location efforts as needed.

  • Maintain compliance with all applicable collection laws, consumer protection regulations, and company policies.

  • Support internal teams by providing timely updates on account status and legal proceedings.

  • Perform additional administrative and operational duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will bring a combination of legal support, collections experience, and regulatory awareness. This role requires someone who can navigate sensitive situations professionally while maintaining strict compliance standards.

Requirements

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of collections, legal support, bankruptcy processing, or related experience preferred.

  • Working knowledge of collection practices, legal documentation, and regulatory compliance.

  • Familiarity with consumer finance regulations, including FDCPA requirements and other applicable compliance standards.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to prioritize a high-volume workload with minimal supervision.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong problem-solving abilities and sound professional judgment.

  • High level of discretion when handling confidential customer and legal information.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Outlook, and Word.

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
