Position Summary, ERT Technician

NY Creates is seeking a ERT Technician to help lead and respond to site emergency incidents, including chemical, fire, and medical events, while maintaining readiness through training, inspections, and equipment upkeep. The ERT Technician will support team development, ensure accurate documentation, and collaborates with response partners as well as perform hazardous, non-routine tasks involving process materials and operates effectively in high-stress environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leads and responds to site emergency incidents, including chemical, fire, and medical events, while maintaining readiness through training, inspections, and equipment upkeep.

  • Supports team development, ensures accurate documentation, and collaborates with response partners.

  • Performs hazardous, non-routine tasks involving process materials and operates effectively in high-stress environments.

  • Initiate and manage an effective and efficient response to site wide chemical, fire, medical, and other emergency incidents.

  • Maintain response readiness through team development and equipment maintenance ? Conduct life safety and equipment

  • Maintain equipment stocks and instrument calibration.

  • Provide direction and training to assigned team members.

  • Work effectively with both internal and external response partners.

  • Document incidents and maintain computer and written records.

  • Work effectively in a high stress environment.

  • Perform hazardous, non-routing tasks including tool decontamination, chamber opening and chemical change outs, cracking fittings, and other work with hazardous process materials.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications, ERT Technician

  • Associate degree in science or engineering or related field and training in a highly technical environment.

  • Current HZWOPER certification and/or 2-3 years of experience in HAZWOPER or Emergency services.

  • Relevant Military experience can be substituted for HAZPOWER, Technical or Emergency Service experience.

  • Working knowledge of Comprehensive Emergency Management and understanding how to implement the Incident Command System using an ALL-Hazards Approach.

  • Must work well independently and as part of a team. Must be an initiative-taking self-starter.

  • Strong prioritization and project management skills are essential.

  • Good computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office products.

  • Must have outstanding written and oral communication skills as well as people skills.

  • Must be able to process new information and formulate a systematic written incident action plan.

  • Must be able to work a non-traditional schedule including possible overnight shifts. The typical shift is 12 hours with the possibility of overtime.

This position is contingent on the satisfactory completion of a background check; this position may require annual background checks.
