Position Summary

The Loan Specialist evaluates, approves and aggressively pursues loans and other loan services within Credit Union loan policy and guidelines. This position develops and manages a personal loan portfolio to meet Credit Union goals and objectives. The Loan Specialist maintains a very high level of member service being proactive in communication with members and associates. This position works in the Lending Center.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Provide friendly, professional, timely, service and follow-up to all members to meet the lending demands of members.

  • Develop and maintain knowledge of Valley’s lending manual, loan products, policies and procedures in orr to aggressively pursue loans and cross sell other loan products. Develop knowledge and comply with the Fair Lending Laws and regulations.

  • Develop and build an individual loan portfolio through relationship building.

  • Maintain delinquency; sell other loan and Credit Union products; maintain charge-off ratio.

  • Ensure timely communication and transfer of information to loan processors.

  • Initiate action to achieve established loan goals by aggressively pursuing loan recaptures and selling other loan products.

  • Consult with members and co-workers on credit related issues.

  • Seek approval on any loans until limits are established.

  • Process member applications on the Internet electronically and/or telephone loans. Seek additional approval as needed.

  • Determine collateral needs and payment plans for members applying for routine loans.

  • Obtain and evaluate credit reports.

  • Notify applicant of loan decision. Correspond with members, applicants, and processors to resolve issues.

  • Maintain interest rate structure that is consistent with the Credit Union policies.

  • Build and increase individual loan portfolio to meet or exceed monthly sales goals.

  • Backup and assist the Indirect Department.

  • Perform any additional duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES

  • Sales skills are required.

  • Ability to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team.

  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, email software and use of the Internet. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs including Word and Excel.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

  • Ability to demonstrate high levels of accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Ability to deal calmly and professionally with diverse personalities and cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization.

  • Ability to communicate with others inside and/or outside the organization, generally regarding routine matters for the purpose of giving and obtaining information, as well as advising or referring.

  • Ability to perform job functions with composure under the stress of deadlines and requirements for extreme accuracy and quality.

  • Ability to establish priorities, set goals and meet deadlines in an accurate and efficient manner. Ability to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities.

SERVICE STANDARDS

Create a positive and personal experience at each touch point.

  • Stand up to greet all members and walk them into my office, when possible.

  • Provide my member with fast and efficient service.

  • Find my members motivation, why Valley, why today;

  • Ask my member how much time they have;

  • Efficiently service them in the time they have available.

  • Be professional in all interactions with members

  • Shake hands, when appropriate;

  • Use my member’s name multiple times;

  • Ask what else I can do for them

  • Walk them to the door, when possible.

Be a financial educator and resource for my member.

  • Focus on building a relationship with my member.

  • Learn our product and services so that I can educate our members.

  • Listen to the member and suggest accounts that would most benefit them.

  • Explain all the benefits of the chosen accounts and answer any member questions.

  • Talk to my member about all additional Valley products (including ID Theft, Online Banking, Reg E and E-Statements)

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associate degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; minimum one year related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Previous financial experience preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and/or stand; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, as necessary.

Base Compensation: $22.18 - $33.26 per hour, DOE.
