Summary

About the Position: This position is located within Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) in the Department of Pathology in Honolulu, Hawaii. This is an obligated position. An obligated position is one to which an employee has statutory restoration rights or entitlement based on active military service, recovery from a compensable injury, or return rights based on an overseas tour.

Duties

  • Receive sample packages sent by remote laboratories.
  • Unpack samples, reviews documentation for completeness and technical accuracy, and processes samples as described above.
  • Pack samples for pickup by courier or for mailing to areference laboratory. Exercises care in handling, processing and shipping samples.
  • Enter all shipped samples into the shipped sample database, performs system backups, and generates reports as requested by supervisor or laboratory manager.
  • Receive requests for supplies from others in the laboratory.
  • Maintains all documentation as required by Department of Health Agency (DHA) and local regulations. Submits and coordinates orders with Logistics.
  • Process a wide variety of laboratory specimens for in-house analysis and/or shipment to civilian or military reference laboratories.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document Specialized Experience:One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service which includes supporting routine laboratory operations by receiving, processing, shipping, and documenting specimens.This definition of experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree.with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position, such as Pathology or related field of study. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.

Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees. An Advanced in hire may be authorized for highly qualified candidates.
