Full job description

Overview

This role is at Spirit AeroSystems, Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, supporting Spirit’s Commercial Business Units (“Spirit Commercial”). Spirit Commercial designs and builds commercial aerostructures, including for Boeing Commercial Airplanes, one of Boeing’s three business units and the premier manufacturer of commercial jetliners for decades. Spirit Commercial’s core products include fuselages, pylons, nacelles and wing components, with a focus on innovative composite and aluminum manufacturing solutions.

The Role: The APQP focal is responsible for ensuring the flawless execution of new product launches, work transfers and process changes to existing product. The focal will lead Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) efforts across Spirits supply chain. As a Spirit representative, the APQP focal will also conduct training programs and coordinate company initiatives to develop and improve supplier performance and productivity. The focal will provide technical expertise to company employees, suppliers, customers, and regulatory education and coaching on the Quality System.

Responsibilities

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide Suppliers with APQP/PPAP guidance which could include the facilitation and compilation of tools such as (but not limited to):

  • Process Flow

  • Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA)

  • Control Plan

  • Statistical Process Control (SPC)

  • Measurement System Analysis (MSA)

  • First Article Inspection (FAI).

  • Develop timelines for APQP projects and ensure successful adherence to the schedule

  • Interface with a cross-functional team which could include Spirit Internal teams as well as Spirit Customers

  • Prepare a monthly summary of Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) for the APQP/PPAP process

  • Continuously improve the APQP/PPAP process through enhancements of process and procedures

Additional Activities may include:

  • Ensure that suppliers manufacturing, quality system, special processes, and products meet purchase contract requirements, customer requirements and applicable regulatory agency and government regulations.

  • Ensures that suppliers document and maintain an approved Quality System to meet the appropriate company or customer requirements

  • This requires planning, organization, and conduction of audits, surveys, and inspections of supplier. Represents the company with suppliers. Ensures that suppliers document and maintain an approved Quality System to meet the appropriate company or customer requirements.

  • Work with supplier to submit Notifications of Escapement (NOE) and work to closure with 8D’s.

  • Qualifications

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • 3+ years of experience in manufacturing and operations or

  • 3+ years of experience with Quality/Manufacturing Engineering

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Working knowledge of Advance Product Quality Planning (APQP)

  • LEAN and Six Sigma certification

  • Competent in Root Cause Corrective Action and ability to perform conformity checks.

  • Strong ability to read drawings, procedures, First Article Inspections (FAI) and understand contracts.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills with ability and willingness to communicate and work with other functions and sites.

  • Proven ability to work on a team while generating respect and trust from staff as well as external customers

  • Must be willing to travel approximately 30%

Summary Pay Range - Mid-Level (Level 3): $77,250 - $118,450
