JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLEHigh School Language Arts / Concurrent Enrollment Teacher

REPORTS TOHigh School Principal

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification

  • Meet certification requirements of the Department of Education, State of Iowa

  • Master's degree in English OR a Master's degree in related field paired with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in English, meeting Higher Learning Commission (HLC) faculty credentialing standards

Knowledge/Skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge of college-level writing, literature, and rhetoric instruction

  • Ability to teach rigorous, college-level curricula that align with postsecondary learning outcomes while meeting Iowa Core standards

  • Proficiency in using postsecondary Learning Management Systems (LMS) and student information platforms

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to collaborate effectively with high school administration, college faculty liaisons, students, and parents

  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and accomplish assigned work within high school and college administrative deadlines

  • Such alternative to the above qualification as the Board of Education or partnering postsecondary institution may find appropriate and acceptable

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Plan, evaluate, and revise curricula and course materials to align simultaneously with Iowa Core standards and the approved partner college course competencies and syllabus templates

  • Maintain college-level academic rigor, grading standards, assessment criteria, and textbook/course material requirements as specified by the partner institution's academic department

  • Utilize diverse, research-based instructional strategies and differentiated language instruction to support high school students operating in a college-level learning environment

  • Maintain active instructor approval status with the partnering postsecondary institution

  • Submit proposed course syllabi to the college department chair/liaison for review and approval prior to the start of each term

  • Verify and validate official high school and college class rosters within required deadlines.

  • Post learning materials, grades, and record attendance in both district and postsecondary LMS/gradebook systems

  • Submit final college grades directly to the postsecondary registrar by the established postsecondary deadlines

  • Participate in classroom observations and curriculum evaluations conducted by college faculty liaisons and district administrators

  • Attend mandatory postsecondary orientation, annual discipline-specific professional development sessions, and faculty liaison meetings provided by the partner college

  • Stay current with developments in high school language arts instruction and higher education teaching methodologies

  • Participate in district staff meetings, collaborative team meetings, and assigned committees

  • Communicate high school and college-level academic integrity, plagiarism, and grading policies clearly to students and parents

  • Maintain a professional, supportive classroom environment conducive to college-level instruction

  • Make provisions to be available to students and parents outside the instructional day for academic guidance and course support

  • Provide necessary documentation, plans, and instructions for substitute teachers

  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance

  • Act as an advisor to student organizations as assigned
