Full job description

Job Description: Transportation Manager

Summary:

In the Transportation Manager position, you will be responsible for superior service to customers, as well as identifying and implementing effective and timely solutions to transportation and delivery opportunities. Develop and promote safety, customer service, and operational excellence. You will work closely with the Transportation Department and the Vice President of Operations based out our Louisa, Kentucky location. You will be an essential part of our team that has been servicing customers and delivering fine foods since 1942.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide daily work direction to delivery drivers to ensure safe and efficient operations and to meet customer requirements; maintain daily activity assignments of tractors, trailers, trucks, and drivers.

  • Monitor daily activity to make necessary adjustments in load assignments, special delivery, or pick-up instructions while effectively communicating with members, customers, drivers, and dispatch.

  • Create employee schedules and take appropriate actions to meet established goals.

  • Ensure compliance with any DOT regulations; keep informed of regulatory and logistical issues.

  • Ensure employees achieve performance expectations through training/coaching; routine driver audits or observation of safety; operational efficiency; compliance requirements (DOT); annual reviews.

  • Be available to respond to emergencies or other unexpected operational requirements (i.e. nights, weekends, or holidays). Participate in on-call rotation if possible.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Graduate or equivalent (GED) required. Bachelor’s degree preferred in business, supply chain/logistics or related field preferred.

  • A minimum of 2 years supervising drivers is preferred.

  • Regulatory knowledge in applicable federal, state, and local guidelines (DOT, DMV).

  • Computer systems experience in GPS systems, routing optimization and handheld computers (Scanning and other receiving platforms) and cameras (Samsara experience preferred).

  • Computer proficiency with MS Excel, Word, and Outlook

  • Must be able to pass all pre-employment screens (including drug, criminal, driving record).

  • Possess a current Class A CDL license or be willing to obtain one.

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Able to stand for extended periods.
  • Knowledge of customer service principles and quality standards.

  • Ability to use a computer, smartphone, business software, and new applications/proprietary software.

  • Ability to perform repetitive lifting of 50 lbs.

  • Be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, reach, bend, squat, and stoop to accomplish the essential job functions.

  • Self-motivated; customer focused.

  • Maintain a current and valid driver’s license.
