Full job description

Description

Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.

We are looking for a systems development engineer who combines superb technical capabilities with a demonstrated ability to get the right things done quickly and effectively. You will work with a team of top-notch software and electrical engineers and will collaborate with multiple spacecraft design, test, and operations teams. You should be comfortable with a high degree of ambiguity and relish the idea of solving problems that haven't been solved at scale before. Along the way, we guarantee that you will learn a lot, have fun, and make a positive impact on tens of millions of people.

Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Key job responsibilities

  • Develop software for automated hardware test execution in collaboration with design and operations teams.

  • Develop automation software for lab equipment like spectrum analyzers, signal generators, electronic loads, power supplies, network analyzers, high-speed oscilloscopes, and control of test chambers.

  • Support development and deployment of test systems for development, debugging and production testing.

  • Provide operational support for software used in development and production testing.

A day in the life

You will develop and deliver test software for avionics subsystems for both development and production testing. You manage and develop continuous delivery pipelines that streamline software development and ensure software reliability. You will participate in software design, where engineers across disciplines work together to design systems that build confidence in the performance of satellite avionics. You provide operational support for test software and work across teams to unblock production and testing issues.

About the team

Our team designs and delivers the test and provisioning systems that enable qualifying and acceptance testing the bus avionics and hardware subsystems for Leo satellites.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • Experience in automating, deploying, and supporting large-scale infrastructure

  • Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust

  • Experience with Linux/Unix

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with distributed systems at scale

  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
