Summary
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is included under the provisions of Special Retirement Coverage (SRC) and may have both a maximum entry age and a mandatory retirement date. Duties
- Operate within an assigned inspection area to include high-risk, conducting comprehensive fire/safety inspections to identify and correct hazardous conditions.
- Conduct public education classes post-wide as well as on-the-job training classes for fire department personnel.
- Conduct review of architectural drawings and specifications to determine compliance with fire/safety regulations and evaluate special features impacting the fire protection mission.
- Respond to emergency incidents as part of a firefighting team at all types of emergencies.
Qualifications
Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Fire prevention inspections on diverse types of operations; 2) Conduct visual and operational inspections of automatic and manual fire protection alarm systems, fire pumps, and associated equipment; 3) Perform minor preventive checks on fire protection alarm systems and equipment; and 4) Perform a full range of firefighting duties that include responding to emergency incidents, fire suppression, fire investigation, and hazardous materials abatement. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). Selective Placement Factor: In addition to the specialized experience and/or education required to qualify for the GS-05 level you must also possess and maintain ALL the following Department of Defense (or reciprocal equivalent) certifications: (1) Hazardous Materials Technician (2) Firefighter II (3) Airport Firefighter (ARFF) (4) Driver Operator-Pumper (5) Driver Operator - Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Apparatus (ARFF D/O) (6) Driver Operator - Aerial (7) Driver Operator- Mobile Water Supply (MWS) (8) National Registry Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (NREMT-B), Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT), or Paramedic (EMT-P) (9) Fire Instructor I (10) Fire Inspector II (11) Public Fire and Life Safety Educator I within 12 months or appointment. This position requires that the individual possess and maintain the following Department of Defense International Fire Service Accreditation Congress or Pro-Board issued certifications. NOTE: For each certification listed above, you MUST submit a copy with your application package, or you will be rated in-eligible.

This position requires a 1 year probationary period during which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest. Continued employment requires written certification that it advances the public interest. Direct Deposit of Pay is required. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees. This is a(n) Installation Career Field position. Multiple positions may be filled from this announcement. Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement. Permanent Change of Station (PCS) allowances may be authorized, subject to the provisions of the Joint Travel Regulations and an agency determination that a PCS move is in the Government Interest. Recruitment and relocations incentives may be authorized. Student loan repayment may be be authorized. Salary negotiations for those candidates who are new to Federal service may be authorized. Credit for prior non-federal work experience and certain military service for determining annual leave accrual rate may be authorized.
