Facilities Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY

The Facilities Engineer is responsible for supporting the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of manufacturing

facilities through engineering expertise, project management, continuous improvement initiatives, and asset

reliability programs. This position partners with operations, maintenance, environmental, and safety teams to

optimize plant performance, improve equipment reliability, reduce downtime, and support capital improvement

projects.

The Facilities Engineer plays a key role in supporting Hunt Forest Products' commitment to operational

excellence, employee safety, environmental stewardship, and sustainable manufacturing practices. The

position assists in developing and implementing engineering solutions that improve productivity, reduce

operating costs, enhance energy efficiency, and support long-term facility growth.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

Engineering & Reliability

• Support the reliability, maintainability, and operational effectiveness of plant equipment and

infrastructure.

• Analyze equipment performance and recommend improvements to maximize uptime and production

efficiency.

• Assist in the development and implementation of preventive and predictive maintenance programs.

• Conduct root cause failure analysis and participate in corrective action planning for equipment failures.

• Evaluate manufacturing processes and implement engineering solutions to improve safety, quality,

throughput, and cost performance.

• Monitor and optimize utility systems including electrical distribution, compressed air, hydraulic systems,

process water systems, and facility infrastructure.

Capital Projects

• Manage and support capital projects from concept development through installation and startup.

• Develop project scopes, budgets, schedules, and technical specifications.

• Coordinate project activities with operations, maintenance personnel, vendors, contractors, and

engineering consultants.

• Ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.

• Support facility expansions, equipment upgrades, automation initiatives, and infrastructure

improvements.

Automation & Process Controls

• Assist with industrial control systems, PLCs, process automation, instrumentation, and networking

infrastructure.

• Support process optimization through data collection, analysis, and digital technologies.

• Participate in troubleshooting and improvement of automated manufacturing systems.

• Identify opportunities to leverage technology for improved production performance and equipment

reliability.

Safety & Environmental Compliance

• Promote Hunt Forest Products' culture of safety through active participation in EHS programs and

initiatives.

• Identify hazards, assess risks, and develop engineering controls to mitigate safety concerns.

• Support compliance with OSHA, environmental regulations, company policies, and industry best

practices.

• Participate in incident investigations and implementation of corrective actions.

• Support energy conservation initiatives and sustainable operational practices.

Continuous Improvement

• Utilize data analysis and problem-solving methodologies to identify improvement opportunities.

• Participate in Lean Manufacturing, operational excellence, and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Develop performance metrics and reports to support decision-making and project prioritization.

• Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE)

and plant performance.

Leadership & Collaboration

• Build strong working relationships with production, maintenance, safety, environmental, and

administrative teams.

• Provide technical guidance and engineering support throughout the facility.

• Assist in training and mentoring operations and maintenance personnel.

• Support cross-functional teams in achieving business objectives.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Strong understanding of manufacturing systems, engineering principles, and industrial operations.

• Knowledge of electrical power systems, motors, drives, instrumentation, process controls, and

automation technologies.

• Experience with PLC-based control systems and industrial networking preferred.

• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis skills.

• Familiarity with reliability-centered maintenance principles.

• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.

• Working knowledge of OSHA safety standards and industrial environmental compliance requirements.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, CMMS systems, and engineering software applications.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Required

• Bachelor's Degree in either:

• Electrical Engineering

• Mechanical Engineering

• Industrial Engineering

• Related Engineering Discipline

• Minimum of 3 years of engineering experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.

Preferred

• Experience in lumber, plywood, panel products, sawmill, wood products, paper, chemical, or other

heavy manufacturing industries.

• Experience managing capital projects.

• Experience with industrial automation, PLCs, VFDs, instrumentation, and process controls.

• Knowledge of predictive maintenance technologies including vibration analysis, thermal imaging,

lubrication programs, and condition monitoring.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Ability to work in industrial manufacturing environments, including operating areas, maintenance shops,

and construction projects.

• Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and work around heavy industrial equipment.

• Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

• Occasional evening, weekend, or shutdown support may be required.

• Ability to travel periodically between Hunt Forest Products facilities as needed.

Environmental Conditions

• Work is performed in an industrial mill environment. This includes working at heights requiring

the use of ladders, platform and lifting machinery. Work is often performed in tight, dirty, oily

areas including confined spaces. Overall, the mill is exposed to outdoor temperatures where

extreme heat and cold will be a condition of work.
