Adecco Medical & Science is hiring a Plant Health Technician for our client, Bayer, in Chesterfield, MO.

Position Details

Job Type: Temporary

Pay Rate: $ 31.50/hour

Location: Chesterfield, MO

Schedule: Monday–Friday; must be available to report by 8:00 AM daily and 7:30 AM during peak production

Work Environment: Onsite – Laboratory, Greenhouse, Growth Chamber & occasional Field Sites

Education: Bachelor's degree required; Master's or Ph.D. preferred

Interview: Manager review and interview

Position Overview

The Plant Health Team is seeking an entry-level Plant Health Technician to support the production of high-volume, high-quality inoculum used in the characterization of Bayer's North American breeding pipeline for plant disease traits.

This is a fast-paced, production-focused scientific environment. The role provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in microbiology, mycology, molecular biology, plant pathology, laboratory techniques, and plant health research.

Key Responsibilities

Manipulate and manage a diverse collection of fungal and bacterial pathogens.

Perform molecular characterization and identification of microorganisms.

Document microorganisms and laboratory activities in online databases.

Develop and implement in planta and in vitro assays.

Perform quality assurance and quality control assessments.

Maintain sterile technique throughout laboratory and production processes.

Prepare substrates and growth media.

Infect, dry, harvest, and package inoculum while maintaining sterile techniques.

Support packaging and shipping procedures in compliance with established requirements.

Plant, maintain, and inoculate plants and collect tissue samples.

Maintain accurate records, labeling, and documentation.

Dispose of regulated and non-regulated laboratory and controlled-environment waste.

Assist with projects and tasks under the direction of scientists.

Continuously sterilize machinery, materials, laboratory spaces, greenhouses, and growth chambers.

Occasionally travel to and work at field sites.

Adapt to changing priorities and shifting responsibilities as production needs change.

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory and work environment.

Follow all health, safety, and environmental procedures.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required

Background in microbiology or microorganism-related sciences required

Experience in mycology and/or microbiology

Experience with molecular biology techniques involving biological organisms or microorganisms

Agricultural sciences and/or plant pathology experience preferred

Strong understanding of and ability to follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Strong attention to detail and troubleshooting skills

Ability to follow SOPs and maintain accurate labeling and documentation

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic team

Comfortable performing repetitive tasks in a production environment

Comfortable working in growth chambers and occasionally in field settings

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing assignments

Physical & Working Requirements

Ability to occasionally lift 50 lbs. or more

Ability to frequently shake 4–5 lb. bags of inoculum during peak production

Ability to work in laboratory, greenhouse, growth chamber, and field environments

Occasional work at heights of approximately 4–8 feet

Ability to work with laboratory materials and chemicals including bleach, ethanol, growth media/substrates, and antibiotics

Pay Details: $31.50 per hour
