Full job description

We are seeking a Mid-Level to Senior Transportation Designer to join our growing Digital Delivery and Transportation team. The successful candidate will support the planning, design, and delivery of large-scale transportation infrastructure projects for state and local agencies, including the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) and other Departments of Transportation (DOTs).

This role requires strong technical expertise in MicroStation CONNECT Edition and OpenRoads Designer (ORD), along with experience developing transportation design models and construction documents for complex roadway projects.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain transportation design models using OpenRoads Designer and MicroStation CONNECT.

  • Prepare construction plans, profiles, cross sections, and quantity calculations for transportation projects.

  • Design roadway and highway improvements, including:

o Roadways and highways

o Intersections

o Roundabouts

o Corridor modeling

o Drainage systems

o Utility coordination and design

o Grading and earthwork

  • Process and utilize survey data to support design development.

  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including roadway, drainage, utility, structural, and environmental disciplines.

  • Support project delivery from preliminary design through final design and construction documentation.

  • Ensure compliance with WSDOT, DOT, and project-specific standards and requirements.

  • Participate in quality control reviews and mentoring of junior staff.

  • 5+ years of transportation design experience for mid-level candidates; 10+ years preferred for senior-level candidates.

  • Proficiency with MicroStation CONNECT Edition and OpenRoads Designer (ORD).

  • Experience delivering transportation projects for WSDOT or other state DOT agencies.

  • Strong understanding of roadway geometry, corridor modeling, grading, drainage, and utility design.

  • Experience working with survey data, terrain models, and construction plan production.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidiscipline project teams.

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience on large-scale transportation infrastructure programs.

  • Familiarity with ProjectWise environments and DOT workspace standards.

  • Knowledge of digital delivery and model-based design practices.

  • Experience mentoring junior designers and leading portions of projects
