Full job description

We are seeking an experienced Interim Tax Director to provide leadership and hands-on support for a complex, private equity-backed, multinational tax function during a critical transition period. This consultant will serve as the primary tax leader, overseeing compliance, tax accounting, advisor management, and strategic tax initiatives while ensuring continuity of operations.

This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned corporate tax professional who thrives in fast-paced environments, can quickly assess priorities, and effectively manage multiple workstreams across domestic and international tax matters.

Work Location: Up to 4 days onsite Chicago (West Gate Loop Area), IL 60606

Duration: 3-4 months with potential for extension or conversion

Pay Rate Range: $100/hr-$120/hr

  • Serve as the primary day-to-day leader for the tax function during a critical transition period.

  • Manage U. . federal, state, and international tax compliance activities and related deadlines.

  • Oversee external tax advisors and review tax filings, analyses, and technical deliverables.

  • Lead tax accounting and provision activities, including ASC 740 and year-end readiness efforts.

  • Provide tax support for acquisition-related activities, including integration planning and post-close initiatives.

  • Manage special tax projects involving transfer pricing, indirect tax, nexus, and international tax matters.

  • Partner with finance and accounting leadership to identify tax risks, priorities, and business solutions.

  • Document key processes and support the transition and onboarding of a permanent tax leader.

  • 10+ years of progressive corporate tax experience, including Tax Director, Senior Tax Manager, or equivalent leadership experience.

  • CPA - REQUIRED

  • Strong corporate tax generalist expertise across U. . federal, state, and international tax matters.

  • Deep knowledge of tax accounting (ASC 740) and corporate income tax compliance.

  • Experience working with multinational organizations and managing external tax advisors and outsourced compliance activities.

  • Experience supporting M&A transactions, acquisition integrations, and/or private equity-backed environments is highly preferred.

  • Strong project management, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced environment.
