Summary

This is an excepted service appointment under the Pathways Recent Graduates Program. This appointment is a one-year career development program. Upon successful completion of the program requirements, you may be eligible for non-competitive conversion to a two-year term appointment. A Pathways participant who is non-competitively converted to term appointment in the competitive service may later be converted to a permanent position in the competitive service before the term appointment expires.

Duties

If selected, the incumbent of this position provides a variety of administrative support functions in the areas of acquisition of goods and services, facilities, supply inventories, building and equipment maintenance, mail management, and information receptionist. Typical work assignments will include: Ensuring building maintenance and repairs are performed promptly and adequately. Providing personal property management support by maintaining accountable property inventory and records. Monitoring office supply levels and ensuring supply areas are organized and stocked. Monitoring service contracts and agreements for office equipment and other materials. Providing clerical support by answering multi-line telephone systems, greeting and escorting visitors, sorting and distributing mail. Producing a variety of documents utilizing word processing software functions, working from handwritten drafts, edited copies, or electronic files. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Travel Required: Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position. Qualifications

To be eligible for a recent graduate appointment, ALL of the following requirements must be met: Recent Graduates must have obtained a qualifying associates, bachelors, master's, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying accredited educational institution within the previous 2 years unless military service interfered with a veteran's eligibility to apply during that two year time frame. Veterans meeting the above exclusion may apply within 2 years of discharge or 6 years from the date of receipt of the degree whichever comes first. (Go to http://www.ed.gov/accreditation?src=rn to verify accreditation status). Recent graduates must be United States citizens or owe permanent allegiance to the United States. (Currently, natives of American Samoa, Swains Island and certain inhabitants of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands are the only groups that owe permanent allegiance to the United States.) You must successfully complete a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment. All recent graduates are required to sign a Pathways Recent Graduate Participant Agreement. Recent Graduates serve a trial period for the entire duration of their excepted service appointment. Qualification requirements as outlined below: Qualification Requirements: GS-5: To be eligible at the GS-5 level, you must have: Specialized experience: Applicant must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 level. Specialized experience is defined as experience providing clerical support in an office setting, including managing front desk or general office operations (e.g., answering phones, assisting visitors, and handling mail); reviewing documents for accuracy and assisting with processing forms or requests; maintaining files and records; and utilizing automated software to prepare documents, reports, correspondence, and other related materials. OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level. OR Combination of Education and Experience: Successfully completed post-high school education may be used to meet the total one year of specialized experience requirement equivalent to the GS-4 grade level. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. (A typing test may later be required.)

All academic degrees and coursework must be completed at an institution that has obtained accreditation or pre-accreditation status from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications. How You Will Be Evaluated

Your complete application package (resume/supporting documentation, online questionnaire, and USA Hire Competency Based Assessment) will be used to determine whether you meet the job qualifications listed on this announcement. If it is determined you meet minimum qualification requirements, you may be referred to the selecting official or if Veterans' Preference must be adjudicated, your application will be placed in one of three grouping categories: Best Qualified, Highly Qualified, or Qualified. Within each of these groupings, applicants eligible for Veterans' Preference will receive selection priority over non-veteran preference eligibles. All CP/CPS preference eligibles that meet minimum qualification and eligibility requirements will be included in the "Best Qualified" grouping. You will be rated on the following Competencies: Accountability, Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Decision Making, Flexibility, Integrity/Honesty, Interpersonal Skills, Learning, Reading Comprehension, Reasoning, Self-Management, Stress Tolerance, and Teamwork Go to Appendix F of the Delegated Examining Operations Handbook for the definition of each competency. To be considered for this position, you must complete all required steps in the process. In addition to the application and application questionnaire, this position requires an online assessment. The online assessment measures critical general competencies required to perform the job. The assessment includes a cut score based on the minimum level of required proficiency in these critical general competencies. You must meet or exceed the cut score to be considered. You will not be considered for the position if you score below the cut score or fail to complete the assessment. Overstating your qualifications and/or experience in your application materials or application questionnaire may result in your removal from consideration. Cheating on the online assessment may also result in your removal from consideration. Other Information
