SCOPE OF POSITION:

The purpose of this position is to implement and oversee the youth programs and outreach to children in and around the area served by The Salvation Army’s Spokane Citadel Community Center and Camp Gifford. This outreach includes incorporating the established Salvation Army program and character-building programs such as Sun Beams, Girl Guards, Adventure Corps, Junior High Youth Group and Senior High Youth Group, basketball groups, Camp, Young Adults, college age and other youth programing components throughout the center. This position will provide support to the After-the-Bell program and staff. Reporting directly to the Corps Officer, the Youth Ministry Outreach Coordinator provides leadership and support to all youth related programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide support to the After-the-Bell program and staff

  • Engage campers through letters, phone calls, and visits with the aim of inviting them to Corps youth programs

  • Assist in planning special events specifically aimed at inviting youth to summer camp and recruiting Salvation Army Leadership Training participants

  • Participating in the Spokane Citadel program team planning meetings

  • Participation in Divisional Youth events as assigned by Corps Officer

  • Attend Community meetings as assigned

  • Ensure all youth participant applications and field trip forms are complete, accurate, and stored properly according to policy

  • Maintain youth records in Corps Management, including, but not limited to, contact information, demographics, household information, relationships, enrollments, groups, and attendance

  • Complete all required troop documentation including annual registration and monthly reports

  • Supervise Tuesday youth programs ensuring all Protecting the Mission policies are being followed

  • Ensure teachers follow provided curriculums and reports are turned in on time

  • Provide substitute coverage when teachers are absent

  • Facilitate the minor’s movement from class to class

  • Maintain troop uniform inspection readiness, ensuring they remain clean and neat; ensure emblems are sewn on in a timely fashion

  • Provide programming as assigned for English and Marshallese speaking congregants in the areas of youth/children’s ministry including, but not limited to:

  • After-school program

  • Teen night

  • Troops program

  • Music school

  • Camp Gifford

  • Seasonal events

  • Sunday school

  • Assist in transportation of program participants, social service donation pickups, seasonal kettle workers, Camp Gifford needs, Divisional and Territorial events, etc.

  • Coordinate transportation schedule for participants of Corps programing and ministries with Fleet Coordinator; provide transportation as assigned

  • Be responsible for all statistical reporting as assigned; input the information into Corps Management software

  • Work with Corps Officer to plan special activities for Family Resource Center and campus guests’ birthdays and all holidays, with special attention to all Christmas and Easter activities. These events will be coordinated within the Corps Calendar to ensure the greatest possibility for integration.

  • Work with Corps Officer to welcome new guests on campus including making welcome baskets, doing in-home visits, and facilitating a spiritual assessment

  • Work with Corps Officers to plan and implement the Movies in the Park program during the summer months. This includes assisting in set-up of movie, engaging with families before the movie (play games with kids, talk about our programs, invite to church, etc.) and cleanup afterward

  • Help with coordination and implementation of seasonal activities including Angel Tree, Kettles, and summer camp recruitment

  • Attend the different weekly and monthly campus staff and house meetings

  • Provide information and new content to Development for inclusion in the reader board, web page and Facebook posts

  • Provide support to social service programs as assigned by Corps Officers

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by Corps Officers

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Two or more years of leadership experience, preferred

  • Two or more years of experience in Salvation Army programs, preferred

  • Applicable higher education degree, preferred; high school diploma or GED required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Must possess a thorough working knowledge of, and give competent instruction in, Salvation Army doctrine

  • Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate outreach programs that will be used to draw and engage people to and with Salvation Army programming.

  • Must be able to pass training and to implement a thorough understanding of, implement and observe all necessary child safety/vulnerable adult (Protecting the Mission) policies

  • Must possess a valid State of Washington Driver’s License, and pass both a Motor Vehicle background check and TSA driver training course annually, and be 21 years of age

  • Ability to work independently and with other staff members; ability to work with a diverse group of people

  • Ability to work and conduct oneself in a professional manner

  • Must be able to utilize all necessary office and program equipment adequately (i.e. computers, copy machines, video projectors, etc.)

  • Must be able to keep work area organized, have good time management skills, and be able to complete necessary reports in a timely manner

SOFTWARE-RELATED SKILLS:

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Working knowledge of web applications such as: Facebook, Google Calendar, Sign-up Genius, and other social media platforms

  • Working knowledge of integrated database applications and ability to use new software programs with basic training

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be in good physical and mental health, capable of meeting program demands

  • Participate in child ministry physical activities

  • Sit, move, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on intermittent or continuous basis

  • Grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead

  • Lift and carry up to 40 pounds

Working Conditions:

Work is typically performed in a community-based, ministry-oriented environment focused on engaging children, youth, families, volunteers, schools, and community partners. This position is based out of the Community Center, but often requires work outside the office, including community events, youth programs, camp, churches, and other outreach locations.

Work Schedule / Location:

In-person at Spokane Citadel Corps in Spokane, WA. This position typically works a full-time schedule, with flexibility required to accommodate the needs of the youth programs and community activities. The position may require evening and weekend hours, particularly for youth events, camps, retreats, church activities, fundraisers, and community outreach programs. Occasional holiday work may also be necessary depending on program needs.

Health Insurance: Low bi-weekly premiums ($34.62) for employee only coverage, Kaiser HMO for those residing in a Kaiser service area, Anthem EPO/PPO is available for those residing outside of a Kaiser service area. Voluntary +1 and +family coverage at additional cost. Delta Dental DHMO and DPPO dental insurance offered starting at $2.31 bi-weekly cost. Employees are covered by an employer paid life insurance policy. Voluntary supplemental life, short-term and long-term disability plans are available.

Retirement Plans: Employer-funded Money Purchase Pension Plan (Defined Contribution Plan) 50% vested at 5 years eligible service time, employee funded voluntary 403(b) options

Parental Leave: Benefit will be one week (5 business days) of paid leave at the employee’s normal rate of pay for births, adoptions and foster placements.

Sick Leave: 12 days annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after 3 months’ service time.

Paid Vacation: 2 weeks annually accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions. 4 weeks annually accruing from day one, for exempt positions. Accrued vacation eligible for use after 6 months’ service time.

Paid Holidays: 13 designated holidays + 1 floating holiday per year
