Full job description

Johns Hopkins University is seeking a Physician Assistant for our Center for Nontuberculous Mycobacteria and Bronchiectasis (NTMB), a nationally recognized program established in 2018 that has become a destination for patients with complex, chronic lung disease. This position offers the opportunity to provide specialized care for adults with suspected or confirmed nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) infection – pulmonary or extrapulmonary – and non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis. The Physician Assistant will work as part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team that includes pulmonary medicine and infectious diseases physicians as well as physical therapists with expertise in airway clearance techniques. Patients are seen in a coordinated model that allows for evaluations by multiple specialists during the same clinic visit.

The Center manages patients with complex, chronic respiratory conditions that require ongoing care. In this role, the Physician Assistant will have the opportunity to develop expertise in NTM infections and bronchiectasis, build longitudinal relationships with patients and families, and participate in the Center’s active clinical research program. They will practice under the supervision of attention physicians.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive, age-appropriate episodic care to patients. Take medical histories, perform physical exams, order and interpret laboratory tests/x-rays, make preliminary diagnoses, and order treatment.

  • Perform therapeutic treatment and give patient care directions to nursing and other staff.

  • Prescribe medication, provide patient care, and make patient referrals to appropriate licensed physician.

  • Instruct and counsel patients on diagnosis, complaints, therapeutic regimens, home care and health maintenance.

  • Attend weekly multidisciplinary care meeting.

  • Coordinate research initiatives in collaboration with PI and research team OR clinical initiatives in collaboration with medical team.

  • Identify patients eligible for IRB approved clinical research studies.

  • May contribute to the design of clinical and/or research protocols and procedures.

  • Participate in daily operations of clinical and/or research protocols in collaboration with other staff.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree, Certification by the NCCPA or similar national certifying body.

  • Completion of a CAAHEP-certified Physician Assistant program.

  • Must be licensed as a PA in the State of Maryland or another state where practicing.

  • Current CPR certification.

  • Must be willing to obtain license in at least 4 additional states (DE, PA, WV, FL) to facilitate telemedicine appointments.

  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three years of experience in a related clinical area and obtained proficiency in specialty.

Starting Salary Range: $112,572 - $152,900 Annually (Commensurate w/exp.)
