Resource Attorney - Family Court

Location: Rochester, NY

Salary: $86,748 - $120,080 annually

Agency/Dept.: Assigned Counsel

Description of Duties

This is an attorney position located at the Department of Public Safety, Assigned Counsel Program responsible for overseeing the Monroe County Assigned Counsel Program Panel. Duties include providing advice and guidance to the Panel to assist with ensuring justice to eligible indigent individuals who require mandated legal representation which, due to conflicts of interest for institutional providers such as the Public Defender’s Office and Conflict Defenders Office, require assignments of some cases to private attorneys. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of the Assigned Counsel Administrator. Does related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an American Bar Association (ABA) approved/accredited law school with a Juris Doctor degree and admission to practice law in New York State plus five (5) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience as a criminal defense attorney handling criminal and/or Family Court matters, two (2) years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity or as lead counsel.
