The Department of Health and Welfare’s Licensing and Certifications, Bureau of Facility Standards is hiring a Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, Social Worker, or a Registered Dietician for our Boise office.

This position is responsible for conducting surveys and investigations to assess compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, and state laws, regulations, and policies governing healthcare facilities. Surveyors evaluate the quality and delivery of care, facility practices, policies and procedures, and other factors that impact the health, safety, and well-being of patients. Through surveys and complaint investigations, surveyors help ensure facilities meet regulatory requirements and provide safe, effective, and high-quality care to the public.

All positions require the ability and willingness to travel, including occasional overnight stays. Health Facility Surveyors may travel outside their local area and may be away from home overnight. Depending on workload and survey assignments, travel may account for up to 50% or more of work time during certain periods. Most assigned facilities, however, are located within the surveyor’s local or regional area.

  • Non-RN $31.77/hour

  • RN $33.79/hour

This position may be eligible for telework after successful completion of probation and necessary training. Approval to telecommute is not guaranteed and subject to termination at any time.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

  • Conduct regulatory surveys of healthcare facilities to assess compliance with federal and state laws, regulations, and licensing requirements.

  • Evaluate the quality and safety of patient care by reviewing clinical practices, treatment plans, care processes, and patient outcomes.

  • Assess each patient's health, social, emotional, rehabilitative, and habilitative care needs.

  • Observe facility staff and others providing services to patients.

  • Investigate complaints and allegations of noncompliance, including concerns related to quality of care, patient rights, staffing, safety, and facility practices.

  • Conduct interviews and record reviews to ensure sufficient information is gathered on which to base compliance decisions.

  • Use critical thinking skills and professional judgement to determine if the facility is meeting patients' needs in accordance with the stated regulations and health care standards.

  • Provide education and training to healthcare facilities to promote compliance, improve processes, and support the delivery of safe, high-quality care.

  • Write reports that are clear, concise and legally defensible.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIALTY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

You must possess all the minimum/specialty minimum qualifications below to pass the exam for this position. It is highly recommended to attach a one-page cover letter to your application to demonstrate how you meet the requirements below.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in methods of negotiation and public relations. Typically gained by at least six months experience.

  • Experience preparing oral and written reports. Typically gained by at least six months experience preparing oral and written reports.

  • Experience operating a personal computer. Typically met by at least six months of experience operating a personal computer as an integral part of the job.

  • A valid driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age and meet eligibility requirements to drive a state vehicle.

SPECIALTY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

This position requires one of the following (1-4):

  • Certification as a Registered Dietitian by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. For licensure information please contact the Idaho Board of Medicine at http://bom.idaho.gov OR;

  • Licensure as a Social Worker in accordance with Idaho Code 54-32. For licensure information please contact the Idaho Occupational License Bureau at http://ibol.idaho.gov OR;

  • Licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse by the State of Idaho or state licensure as a Practical Nurse pursuant to the Nurse Licensure Compact, Idaho Code 54-1418. For licensure information please contact the Idaho Board of Nursing at http://ibn.idaho.gov OR;
