Job Title: HR Manager
Reports to: Director of HR
Status: Full Time/Supervisor/Exempt
Job Summary
The HR Manager is responsible for supporting the day-to-day execution of Human Resources programs and practices while serving as a trusted resource to leaders and team members. This role provides hands-on HR support across employee relations, performance management, compliance, leave administration, recruiting, HR systems, and other HR initiatives.
The HR Manager partners closely with HR leadership and operational leaders to ensure HR practices are applied consistently, employee concerns are addressed appropriately, and managers have the tools and guidance necessary to effectively lead their teams. This position requires strong judgment, attention to detail, confidentiality, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, multi-location environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Employee Relations & Performance Management
- Serve as a primary HR resource for managers regarding employee relations, performance, attendance, policy interpretation, and workplace concerns.
- Coach and advise leaders on appropriate performance management and corrective action.
- Review corrective action documentation to ensure consistency, accuracy, and alignment with company policy.
- Conduct and support workplace investigations involving employee complaints, misconduct, policy violations, and other employee relations matters.
- Identify trends in employee relations issues and recommend opportunities for additional manager training or process improvement.
HR Compliance & Policy Administration
- Support compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and company policies.
- Assist with the development, implementation, and consistent administration of HR policies and procedures.
- Stay informed of changes in employment laws and HR best practices and communicate relevant updates to HR leadership.
Leave & Accommodation Administration
- Support the administration of FMLA, ADA accommodations, personal leaves, and applicable state and local leave programs.
- Partner with employees and leaders throughout the leave and return-to-work process.
- Participate in the interactive process for accommodation requests in partnership with HR leadership.
Talent Acquisition & Onboarding
- Identify opportunities to improve recruiting effectiveness and the candidate experience.
- Support onboarding initiatives designed to improve new-hire integration and retention.
HRIS & Employee Records
- Review and process employee changes, including promotions, transfers, compensation changes, terminations, and other employment actions.
- Identify opportunities to automate or improve HR processes through available technology.
Performance & Talent Management
- Support the administration of company-wide performance review processes.
- Assist leaders with performance expectations, goal setting, documentation, and employee development.
- Support succession planning, leadership development, and other talent-management initiatives.
- Help identify high-potential team members and opportunities for internal advancement.
Benefits & General HR Support
- Support workers' compensation and workplace safety processes as assigned.
- Assist with HR audits, reporting, and data analysis.
- Participate in company-wide HR initiatives and special projects.
Leadership & Partnership
- Build effective working relationships with operational leaders and serve as a credible HR partner.
- Coach managers on effective employee communication, documentation, accountability, and leadership practices.
- Balance employee advocacy with business needs and consistent application of company policies.
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding employee and company information.
- Demonstrate professionalism, sound judgment, and consistency in all HR interactions.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Management, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- 5+ years of progressive Human Resources experience.
- Prior experience handling employee relations and workplace investigations.
- Working knowledge of federal and state employment laws, including FMLA, ADA, FLSA, and EEO requirements.
- Experience advising and coaching managers on employee relations and performance matters.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Demonstrated discretion and ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
- Proficiency with HRIS platforms and Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred
- Previous HR experience supporting a multi-location and/or multi-state organization.
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification.
- Experience supporting benefits, leave administration, and performance management.
