Full job description

This is a per diem/casual, non-benefited position located at Scripps Coastal Medical Center Carlsbad, working 8-hour shifts on weekdays. No weekends or evenings required. Training will be full time for ~4 weeks but may vary depending on the individual. The ideal candidate will work 2 days/week after training has been completed, as well as the business day before and/or after certain holidays. Monthly availability will be shared with other sites as needed.

Your job duties:

  • Rooming patients, checking vitals, assisting with procedures
  • Clinic prep assisting with Provider specific protocols
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and safe environment
  • Organizes and performs patient care services that support the physician’s practice
  • Relaying instructions from the physician to the patient or authorized person
  • Collecting patient data in person and by phone
  • Documenting patient concerns, messages and care provided in the electronic medical record for the physician's review
  • Administering medications specifically directed by the physician
  • Scheduling of appointments and procedures
  • Complete and accurate message taking
  • Routing messages to the appropriate area for direction
  • Order and referral entry, acquisition of pre-certifications
  • Setting up of cases in EPIC plus basic registration and updating of demographics

Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of a formal Medical Assistant Program or a minimum of two years of experience as a Military Corpsman or Medical Assistant Certification
  • BLS certification for the Healthcare Provider by the American Heart Association (AHA)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year of previous MA experience in the given department
  • Family Practice experience
  • Ability to balance hands on/face-to-face patient care with heavy administrative work
  • Epic experience
